As noted earlier, with specifically false information, it's very easy to track who is using it and passing it around. Poison Pill #1 (Yellowcake Docs) meet Poison Pill #2 (Valerie Plame never worked for WINPAC). "Take two of these, you NeoCon scumbags, and call us from jail" said the Spooks. All it took was for someone like FitzKenobi to pick up the breadcrumb trail left by the Perps.
Justin Raimondo via Kos poster Pigpaste.
According to a source in the Italian embassy, Patrick J. "Bulldog" Fitzgerald asked for and "has finally been given a full copy of the Italian parliamentary oversight report on the forged Niger uranium document," the former CIA officer tells me:
"Previous versions of the report were redacted and had all the names removed, though it was possible to guess who was involved. This version names Michael Ledeen as the conduit for the report and indicates that former CIA officers Duane Clarridge and Alan Wolf were the principal forgers. All three had business interests with Chalabi."

The Italian Job.]
Why is FitzKenobi interested in this information?
The forged Yellocake Docs are the beginning of the story. Without them, none of this would have happened. Like any good lawyer attempting to persuade a jury, FitzKenobi has built a storyline that explains the facts.
Why would the US Intelligence Community allow these "crude forgeries" to get past their vetting process?
Sure, there was a lot of "stovepiping" going on, but someone halfway responsible must have seen them before the WHIG's began using it as propaganda.
Again, the deliciously tantalizing paragraph from my boy Sy Hersh's March 31, 2003 article about the Niger Yellowcake forgeries.
"Somebody deliberately let something false get in there," the former high-level intelligence official added. "It could not have gotten into the system without the agency being involved. Therefore it was an internal intention. Someone set someone up." (The White House declined to comment.)
Firedoglake has a post about the Family Feud between the CIA and Big Dick Cheney's office. The CIA was pissed because the WHIG's and the NeoCons were mistreating their intelligence product in the run up to the invasion of Iraq. Big Dick was pissed because the CIA wouldn't play along.
But what is the NeoCons' motive? What ideology bound them (and the WHIG's and sympathetic sycophants like Judy Miller and possibly NYT management) together in their common goal of invading Iraq?
This group obviously believed that the US Government should use it's power to spread "democracy" (ie: US Military Power, US Political Control, US Corporate Interests) throughout the Middle East. They obviously believed that deceiving the American public and killing tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians were necessary means justified by a noble end.
For more detail, let's look inside the mind of an Arch NeoCon Ideologue (brace yourselves):
Ledeen's books include Universal Fascism, which speaks favorably of fascism as a "revolutionary movement," and Gabriele D'Annunzio, a glowing biography of the founder of the Italian Fascist Party.
Quotes from Ledeen's works reveal a peculiar set of beliefs about American attitudes toward violence. 'Change -- above all violent change -- is the essence of human history,' he proclaims in his book, Machiavelli on Modern Leadership: Why Machiavelli's Iron Rules Are as Timely and Important Today as Five Centuries Ago.
In an influential essay in the National Review Online [2] he asserts, 'Creative destruction is our middle name. We do it automatically ... it is time once again to export the democratic revolution.'
Ledeen's ideas are repeated daily by such figures as Richard Cheney, Donald H. Rumsfeld and Paul Dundes Wolfowitz [Dundes? ROTFL]. His views virtually define the stark departure from American foreign policy philosophy that existed before the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001. He basically believes that violence in the service of the spread of democracy is America's manifest destiny.

In fact, this ideology is nothing new.
Vietnam is one glaring example. Also, covert operations throughout the world during the Cold War. See the Ol' Shysteeblog for examples of Ledeen's "creative destruction" during his time in Italy during the 70's and 80's which include bombing civilians (Bologna Train Station), kidnapping and murdering politicians (Aldo Moro) in order to spread fear and build opposition to the local resistance. Sounds kind of like... I don't know, what's going on in Iraq right now?
Will a couple of cleverly disguised time-delayed exploding pills and a heroic Prosecutor be enough to purge this toxic ideology from the American Body Politic?
If the indictments go down, it's a really, really good start. But a full cleansing will take a lot more work. Telling the larger story and explaining the deeper issues is the only way we can cure America of this Fascist Imperialist sickness.
