Orlando, Fla.'s Chamber of Commerce held its annual Hobnob event on Friday and local Republicans peed in Katherine Harris' lemonade. That sour look on her face? Katherine Harris earned it the hard way.
The Chamber didn't ask Harris to attend - they asked her to emcee the event.
So when they held a straw poll and asked participants who the Fla.'s next senator should be, well, Harris was positioned to triumph - the way we like our Republican candidates.
Only she didn't.
A little history will make this story all the more delightful: Baldwin Park is a "new community" under development on the site of the former Navy Training Center Orlando, a 3,500 acre piece of land smack in the middle of booming Orlando.
And smack in the middle of the largest housing market known to man, the City of Orlando handed over 3,500 acres to a wealthy Chicago development corporation and gave them $20 million in tax incentives to develop.
Baldwin Park ranks as a Republican Valhalla. Former Orlando mayor Glenda Hood, who engineered the tax scam and would be in prison now of we had a state attorney in Orlando instead of a Republican toadie, currently serves as Jeb Bush's Secretary of State - the office Katherine Harris held when she helped steal the 2000 election.
Republican Valhala is why the Chamber chose to hold its "nonpartisan" Hobnob at Baldwin Park. That and it's about five miles from the edge of Sen. Bill Nelson's former congressional district.
But, according the the Orlando Sentinel (free reg. req.):
This heavily Republican crowd (only about a third said they were Dems) cast 54 percent of their ballots for Nelson in the straw poll.
Couldn't happen to a nicer lump of feces. My apologies to feces everywhere for the slight.
