So many delicious interviews and declarations from former president Bush 1 loyalists excoriating the prodigal son's administration. There's Brent Scowcroft who never believed in the Iraq war and who has a heavy distaste for the Neocons. There's Larry Wilkerson, former aide to Colin Powell, who called Cheney, Libby, Condi and the neocons a "Cabal". There's the new, supposedly anti-Neocon Deputy Attorney General, the former Special Prosecutor of AIPAC. And of course there is the intrepid Mr. DeFrank, reporter from the Daily News and good friend of Bush One who seems to have amazing "access" to sources in the Administration. He says that W is furious with the nefarious doings of members of his cabinet. We're hearing "Neocon" a lot right now. We'll be hearing it a lot more.
Do you think it's a coinkydink that all these people are
suddenly, in the space of one week, talking? Hell, no.
This is a determined effort by Bush Jr.to distance himself from the crimes he and his Administration have committed. And it's a return to "Glory" for the old-timers who are eager to pull Jr. up by his bootstraps and prop him up one more time. W. is drowning and the only people he can reach out to are the ones he knows will never screw him, the ones who put him in power, his dad's old pals.
It's like this, folks. W always needs to be rescued. He was rescued from the draft. He was rescued from punishment for going AWOL. He was rescued when Arbusto went under. He was rescued from the disaster that was the Texas Rangers, and he was rescued one Tuesday night in November 2000 by James Baker and in December by the Supreme Court of the United States.
Do you all remember when Florida was hanging in the balance and Bush Senior, when asked how his precious son was "handling" the whole matter, responded "He's taking it like a man"? What do you think he was really thinking? He was relieved that his ill-tempered little delinquent wasn't throwing a temper-tantrum on the bathroom floor, that what.
And now that the wheels are coming off W's little fiefdom, now that his Administration has been caught red-handed fabricating evidence to go to war, he's running back to the safety of Papa Bush. Never mind that the little prick probably was overjoyed and grinning ear to ear at the thought that his lackeys were going to "Get Joe Wilson", we all know that he's part of it. The thing is, everyone will look the other way because we all assume that W. was never in charge and that it was Cheney all along.
So now he has to renounce his "Higher Father" and run back to his faithful Daddy. And he'll be embraced with a mild scolding (which is being done in these "tough" interviews") and all will be forgiven, because he's just a willfull little child who lost his way. Bush One never trusted the Neocon "Crazies" as he loved to call them and General Scowcroft is vindicated in his open distate for their shenanigans
W.is like the teenager who runs with the wrong crowd. He lies, he cheats, he steals, and in this particular case has blood on his hands. But he's a good boy and it's the fault of the other really rotten apples.
And Scowcroft, Bush One, Powell, and Baker all return to their rightful importance in our Society. They refurbished Ronald Reagan's faltering, stumbling administration, afterall. Some of them leak to the press and make you believe that they were always 'alright' guys. But never forget, they put that mendacious, puny little terror in power.
We're already hearing how W's been "ill-served" by his advisors. Don't expect him to be held accountable. He never has been.
So here comes the Old Guard. Baker will be a huge presence. He'll be the cleaner. And America will give W. one more chance. For old time's sake. I suppose, that at this point, almost anything they could offer up would be better than what we have now. If they only can put the Neocons on the back burner...
