Why We Unapologetically Celebrate Fitzmas

Wed Oct 26, 2005 at 08:26:55 AM PDT

With the issuance of indictments, I will celebrate.  I will jump up and down; I will be filled with an abundance of joy, and will undoubtedly cry tears of joy.

"Fitzmas" is not about the stain on our democracy, it is about taking steps to remove the stain on our democracy.

It is not about feeling shame because of our country's humiliation, it is about beginning to hold our heads up again because our system is working to address that which has shamed us for so long.

When the media has failed us,
When our Party has failed us,
When our election process has failed us,
When our Supreme Court has failed us,
When our whistleblower protections have failed us,
When our system of checks and balances has failed time and again,
Finally, we have something that has hope of working.

It's nearly all we have left. We celebrate fully because it is a big step in ridding us of the incompetent, corrupt, sick, cowards that make up this neo-con administration.

WE CELEBRATE JUSTICE like the family of a murdered loved one celebrates the killer being caught.  They rejoice not because their loved one was murdered - they feel redemption and hope that the killer will not continue to get away with murder.

For me and many of my co-celebraters, the issuance of indictments by a Grand Jury is like a light at the end of a very dark tunnel. It is a light that says our experiment in Democracy is not a failure - not quite yet anyway.

Calling it "Fitzmas" is a recognition that this is like a new life for many of us. It is not IMHO trivializing his work; it is to some of us a small way of honoring our new HERO Patrick Fitgerald.

Celebrate unapologetically, for the rest of the world will be doing so also.

  •  We celebrate Fitzmas (none / 0)

For the same reason we celebrate Christmas!

Because it represents our salvation from evil.

The Book of Revelation is not a foreign policy manual.

to our Republican friends, we should probably just wish them "Happy Holidays." >snark<

than I to see these thugs go down the drain.  I have always asserted that the country needs to have a full hearing of their crimes.

What I do think, in the midst of that glee, is that we need to remember this case is [at root ]about the lies that drove this country into an unecessary, illegal war, resulting untold death and destruction.

I am not saying don't celebrate the indictments.  I just think it will reflect well on those who protest the war to remember that this isn't a sporting event. People continue to die each day because of the larceny of this administration.

Sometimes the Fitzmas stuff, while very funny at times, illustrates how easy it is to fall into a sports mentality that is IMHO not appropriate.

Fitzmas is funny.  But its getting to be a little clubbish and insensitive.  IMHO>
