Keith Olbermann said the following during his Al Franken interview on 10/25:
"...You were good enough to come on this newscast with me late in the summer of 2003. It was August or September.
And by coincidence, either the next day or the day before, Jeanine Garofalo had been a guest on the newscast. And I got called into a vice president`s office here and told, "Hey, we don`t mind you interviewing these guys, but should you really have put liberals on, on consecutive nights?
That`s just over two years ago. Al, can you believe that the country was actually at that point that recently? "
More below the fold...
Fox "news" has proven that if a phrase is repeated ad naseum, it will eventually become accepted as fact among much of the general population. We, who are critical thinkers, have allowed ourselves to be steamrolled by this tactic in recent years. Fair or not, sound bites matter. It's obvious that the idea of a liberal media bias is an utter myth; how many Armstrong Williams/Jeff Gannon situations have we seen recently? How many of these fake pundits and "journalists" have been associated with the left? NONE. The Olbermann quote gives weight to what we already know: CNN, Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS are corporately owned entities whose ultimate measure of accountability is profit.
Let's frame the discussion. From now on, in my writing and conversation I will refer to the mainstream media as "The Corporate Media", and I encourage you to do the same. It's factually correct, it implies fat cat republicans, and if we say and write it enough, we may be able to begin to rectify the general population's misconception, with time.
