Fizzlemas, Fitzmas, Fitzannukah, whatever. Some may be disappointed "only" Libby was indicted, but I'm not. Bolton, Cheney, Bush, Novak, Rove, and the Wicked Witch of the West - we can't expect a single federal prosecutor to do our POLITICAL jobs for us.
If we are going to defeat the Right and the GOP, its going to be based on our efforts - on developing fresh progressive ideas for the 21st century, on formulating a clear and cogent agenda, on speaking to the dreams and hopes of all Americans, and with doing the hard work on the ground. That's our job - not Fitzgerald's. If we aren't willing to break a sweat, to do the heavy lifting, we deserve to lose.
More Fitz on the Flipz
That said, I am quite happy with Fitzgerald. Not just for bringing the scumbags into the cold, hard light of day, but for doing something that the GOP machine has attempted to crush out: putting aside partisanship in service to his country. When Fitzgerald got up before the microphones today, the American eagle and DOJ seal behind him, they saw an honest, hardworking civil servant doing his job, and doing it well. If FEMA's failures in New Orleans showed us the failures of government at its worst, Fitzgerald has shown us it at its best. He gives truth to the lie that the institutions of government cannot work. THAT is something we can all be proud of.
In Fitzgerald's own words:
That talking point won't fly...The truth is the engine of our judicial system. If you compromise the truth, the whole process is lost ... if we were to walk away from this, we might as well hand in our jobs.

I will say this: To the CIA people who are going out at a time that we need more human intelligence, I think everyone agrees with that, at a time when we need our spy agencies to have people work there, I think just the notion that someone's identity could be compromised lightly, to me compromises the ability to recruit people and say, Come work for us, come work for the government, come be trained, come invest your time, come work anonymously here or wherever else, go do jobs for the benefit of the country for which people will not thank you, because they will not know, they need to know that we will not cast their anonymity aside lightly.
Is it getting a little dusty in here?
