President Weclomes Italian Prime Minister to the White House
The Oval Office
11:44 A.M. EST
PRESIDENT BUSH: The Prime Minister and I will make statements. Thank you very much. Welcome.
It is good to have my friend back in the Oval Office. I say, "my friend," because it seems like we see each other a lot, and every time we do, I appreciate your advice and your counsel. Relations between Italy and the United States are strong, and the relationship between our countries is important. It's important for our economies, and I'm pleased to know that trade is -- between our countries is vibrant.
Now on to business at hand: today Scotty gets stuffed, tarred, feathered, and then barbequed. Seat back and watch.
So far, no Scotty, but the gaggle is very excited.
Will the President apologize? Hell, NO - there's an ongoing legal proceeding. Blah, blah, blah.
I'm dying to tell ya, I'm willing to tell ya, I'm waiting to tell ya (I think this was Mr. Doolittle from "My Fair Lady" that Scotty is channeling)
David calls him an "artful dodger"
David's pushing Scotty. Scotty shall not comment. Scotty asks him not be rude and disrespectful.
David quotes Bush's 2000 bs about ethics. Scotty promises to spread prosperity at home.
Big debate about Scotty's trust with the press. He has none, but hopes he still has some. Scotty work hard. For him to respond to the question about his credibility would mean to comment on the ongoing investigation. My head is spinning. But he is counting on the trust he has built up.
Does that make it impossible to do his job? Not at all...
