OK. My suggestion, hold fire until the hearings.
It amazes me how the Dems are now so upset. Chuck Schumer is outraged. Well what the hell did you expect? As I said in an earlier diary and got ridiculed and called a troll for saying it. Why were Dems so upset about Miers? She doesn't look so bad now does she? Now here we go again. We opposed Roberts, Miers, and now Alito. Just who do you did you think this President would choose? How we been on the same planet for the last 5 years? Did you really think he was going to let Schumer and Kennedy choose his nominee? Good grief.
Back to my point. Unless this guy has made some absolutely outrageous decisions, it's pointless and politically unwise to use the filibuster. So he believed a wife should notify their husband before they had an abortion...I think any marriage worth a damn should include this notion. However that does not tell me this guy is ready to reverse Roe v. Wade. And before we issue such bold statements, as if we know what type of judge this man will be...AT LEAST LET THE MAN GET TO THE HEARINGS. A filibuster will be extremely bad for Democrats, if there is nothing Janice Brown - like in Alito's rulings. Sure you may win "some" votes with your base, but it will not win you any elections. And possibly it will cripple moderate Dems during election time such as the Bill and Ben Nelson. Furthermore, no conservative or liberal knows how a judge will rule on an individual case. Once a judge becomes a Supreme Court Justice, he answers to no one. Dems voted for Scalia(98-0 confirmation) and Thomas, and Repugs voted for Ginsburg, Breyer and Souter.
Lastly, we don't need this administration to rally his already fractured base. The more Dems come out swinging on this, the better it is for the Repugs. Unfortunately Schumer and Kennedy are viewed just as negatively as Frist and Delay to the masses. They will unite around their battered president, and things such as the vice-president testifying in open court, the Iraqi War lies, the FEMA disaster will all become backpage news. So my appeal to the left is to wait and learn...the name-calling doesn't appeal to independents and moderates
and we need them both...if we are to do well in the 2006 elections and 2008. We have to be smart and effective. Conversative will collapse under their own weight...believe me.
