A 'Grass Roots' effort results in Probable Recall Election

Thu Oct 06, 2005 at 04:28:56 PM PDT

The Seattle Times newspaper is reporting that it appears that efforts to launch a recall election against the Republican mayor of Spokane, Jim West will succeed. West has espoused anti gay views in the past and yet it seems that he himself is a gay man.  There are allegations that he used his position and office in seeking dates with young men.

The recall effort was started by an unemployed single mom... Need I say more?

From the article:

"The campaign to gather signatures on recall petitions was led by Shannon Sullivan, an unemployed single mom who successfully argued her cause before the state Supreme Court in August after West's lawyers appealed the ballot language.

A group called Citizens for Integrity in Government, which runs the www.westmustgo.com Web site, has taken over the campaign.

State Public Disclosure Commission reports show that the campaign so far has been a grass roots affair."

People can effect change.
