"Real Time" Threat - Beware of (m)Ann Coulter

Fri Oct 07, 2005 at 08:18:11 PM PDT

Uh oh....it's time for Real Time.  And guess who's on right now.  Yep, that's right, the wonderfully evil Ann Coulter.  And she just claimed that the media demonized blacks and invented all the supposed atrocities attributed during the Katrina aftermath so the Democrats could stomp on Bush.

Anyone watching, pop in with your own comments.  I'm TiVoing it right now, so I can analyze and deconstruct further...but for now, I'm reduced to flipping the bird and shouting 'Fuck You Bitch!' at her image.

  •  Ick (none / 0)

I had to stop watching, when she started going off about Liberals being the ones who are demanding the aborting of blacks in order to reduce crime.  This was in defense of Bill Bennett.

How can anyone take this person seriously?  She's a parody of a parody.

    •  I have basic cable, here in Philadelphia (none / 0)

One of the channels is some non-profit PA channel and from time to time, Democracy Now! is on it, as are other political folks, and recently they aired this hour long segment of Ann The Man talking to whomever would listen.

Trouble was...instead of at least make points (wrong or right), every other phrase out of her mouth was an attempt at being cutesy and a comedian.

And she's not one. She's not funny, she doesn't practice what she preaches, she complains that everyone else is a hate-monger, but she turns around and that's all she does!.

I wish someone could just shut her the fuck up.

My signature beat up your signature.

    •  How? (none / 0)

Because there are some whacked people out there.  And there are people who continue to claim that Democrats and Liberals are the racists because somehow welfare keeps the black man from reaching their real potential.  Since we all know just throwing the Black pop. into the deep end means they'll all find a way to float and become just like the rich white folks.

And, of course, there's the fact that Ann continues to misrepresent the whole thing about the 'Abortion for lower crime rates' arguement (the fact that many unwanted kids, who are ether pawned off for adoption, or raised by a parent/parents who see them not as a gift, but a burden, will more likely turn to crime because of that upbringing) only makes me seethe more.

      •  Don't start watching until 18 min in (none / 1)

The monologue was pretty short and lame and I turned it off as soon as I say her satellite face.  Kept checking in until she was gone.  18 minutes after the hour.

Those on the west coast feed spare yourself.

    •  Bill and Ann are friends (none / 0)

For some strange unfathomable reason. He talked about it on an interview transcribed here.
      •  I get it. (none / 0)

I have a guy I would sometimes count as a friend who has an insanely Randian viewpoint about life. We agree on some things for entirely different reasons (for example, he's pro-choice even though he does believe abortion is the taking of a human life). We agreed on the Iraq war being a bad idea not so much because of moral reasons but because of its inevitable failure and the possibility of exposing how weak our military really was in situations inappropriate to the use of nukes (although he did think I was crazy when I said Hussein had no WMD).  We disagree, obviously, on a lot. But we can talk. Or at least we could. It has gotten harder and harder only because the environment has become so toxic.
    •  Why did you you have to include... (none / 1)

...the transexual part?  Was it really necessary?  Or was it just a little attempt at humor, because, you know, transsexual people are funny?  [Note the correct spelling.]

As an actual transsexual person, I am quite offended by the title of the diary and by your comment.

      How do you respond?

      Robyn

      •  Like this... (none / 0)

I don't think there's anything wrong with it but you know Ann Coulter would, thereby calling her one.  It'd be like calling her a liberal.
        •  She actually said liberals say terrible things (none / 0)

about blacks to hurt Bush.  And of course, the media was the liberal voice.

And her party would never say anything like that.

I can't comprehend not having any ability to be objective.  But she doesn't.  It's hate all the way.

Can't you see how using the word "transsexual" as a term of derision would be offensive to us?  Or do we just not matter, because attempted snark trumps civility?

          Robyn

          •  I can see how you are offended by this (none / 0)

As a recovering alcoholic myself (and damned proud of the "recovering part" of that term, I suppose I could take umbrage at some of the things that are said about Bush's presumptive falling off of the wagon. Truth be told, they don't particularly bother me that much - not even the uninformed and unfair stereotypes of recovering alcoholics. Christ, sometimes I forget myself and call the fucker a goddamn drunk too, which is something I have known to do IRL when in the toils of road rage.

Isn't Bush technically what's being called a "dry drunk?"  You can't really put the "recovering" part if you were to label him an alcoholic since he never went for treatment.  The only comments about him drinking that i've heard have seen to be stereotypes of someone who never actually went through recovery.
          •  but, you knew that goin' in. (none / 1)

you knew that before the nip tuck. you knew the jokes you heard before the nip tuck would still be heard long after the nip tuck, so...
why the tears? maybe the jokes don't get any easier to listen to. but, sorry, it's funny stuff! whether gay, straight or trans, jokes about the pee pee are generally met with a big laugh. we love our pee pee jokes. it ain't about "pc" or "tolerance" or any of that bullshit. it's just plain funny. especially when the target is a faux offended conservative boitch who could use a good old fashioned gang bang to change her 'tood some.
            •  I do agree (none / 0)

We are becoming a little too PC. Especially when people get upset about name calling someone what they actually are. •  Its not about being PC!! (none / 0)

This discussion is about as far away from the point as it could get...

The point is not that someone was making fun of her because she is a transsexual and transsexuals are "bad,"  its that they were making fun of her because she looks like an ugly, ugly, man.

The transsexual comment had nothing to do with this person's opinions of transsexuals, but rather of Ann Coulter, who obviously is trying to put forth the image of an attractive female, when really she's quite ugly.  Its not that all transsexuals are ugly, but merely that Ms. Coulter fails miserably at even the most basic and superficial attempts at personality.

                •  exactly (none / 0)

"who obviously is trying to put forth the image of an attractive female, when really she's quite ugly"

Beyond all the tranny stuff, that's the real point.

I've seen people on here say that insulting her looks is no better than righties insult Michael Moore for being fat, but it's different because he doesn't go around portraying himself as some kind of male model, nor should he.

                  •  Yes Thank you (none / 0)

That was my point.  I'm not trying to offend anyone and again, I don't think there's anything wrong with being a transsexual.  I saw it because we all know Ann Coulter would find something wrong with it.  And the fact that she does sort of talk with a masculine voice and does look somewhat like a drag-queen.  I could call her a liar but let's be honest, I doubt that would bother her.

The whole "she's a man" thing has been going around as a joke and we all know that she would find it bad to be called a transsexual.  I honestly think she'd be just as offended if you called her a liberal too.

                    •  In that case... (none / 0)

                      ...call her a liberal.

The thing here is that you are being told that it is offensive to use transsexual or tranny as a put-down.  Apparently you have some supporters up above who think this sort of sophomoric dsiplay okay.  Perhaps they also think it's funny to put someone down because they are a jew or a wetback or a chink or a raghead...the list goes on and on...or, of course, gay.  Or a nigger.  No difference, once you have been asked to stop and you refuse to even consider it.

Mr. winkler above (and of course it's "mr", women don't behave this way) thinks it's okay because "I asked for it."  You see, in his worldview, transsexual people have no right to be happy.  Throwing words at them is okay, but he'd really much rather be throwing rocks if he could get away with it.  Sadly, in many places, he could.

And I'm not "crying" over this.  This is a teaching/learning moment (what can I say, I'm a college professor).  I learned long ago, however, that some people don't want to learn and I can't make them.  All I can do is offer the education.  It's up tp you and yours whether you wish to accept it or to remain ignorant.

but, it's STILL funny. and snarking (m)Ann Coulter with it is damn fun! so...

          •  There's nothing wrong with being a transsexual (none / 0)

But you have to admit, Ann Coulter does look like a man trying to be a woman.
            •  I don't have to admit that. (none / 0)

I don't know what she looks like.  I don't watch Ann Coulter and read anything that she writes.  I am amazed that there are people, "liberal" people, who do.

Attacking a human being, not for what they say, but for what they look like is disgusting behavior.  It's the worst sort of ad hominem attack I can imagine.

When I came out, I looked, in your words, "like a man trying to be a woman."  So fucking what?  If you were there, would you have been one of the men who tried to assault me?  Or maybe you would have been the neighbor who slit the tires on my car, or the one who put dog shit in my mailbox.  Or maybe just the one who shot my cat.

Does anyone ever just stop and think, "God, I wonder what it's like to be someone like her?"  Is it that much easier just to go along with the crowd?

Are people here even sentient?  I thought people were here at DKos because they were at least thoughtful and that they cared about humanity.  Well, you can't care about humanity if some people are excluded from the caring.  That's what the fucking republicans do, fellas!  Is it your goal in life to be like them?

On the off-chance, the bizarro-chance, that someone here is remotely close to wanting to learn something, I present my diary from yesterday, Learning to Count Past Two.  It's long, as long as it needs to be.  I would surely hope that it's not too long for anyone's attention span.  It's got difficult concepts to consider.  But that should be why people get educated, not just so they can get a job.

      •  I also object (none / 0)

Snark is primate-politics, the chimpanzee sneer that is no different than the Bush Smirk.

And dragging peoples' sexuality & gender into it, except in cases of overt hypocrisy such as closet-cases working against gay rights, is just pandering to the predominant bigotries, no differently than Dobson.

So yeah, clean it up.  Coulter's sexuality and gender identity and medical history have exactly zero relevance to what we think about her positions on this or that issue.

    •  Hey, that statement is from . (none / 0)

I like that they are friends. They are both pretty much extreme deviants on either side. I love Bill Maher and think he's really sharp, but he is extreme in his views on religion, abortion, sex, drugs and sometimes he talks crazy talk. Same thing with her, and I guess if you are on that side, she really speaks to you with her lies and distortions. Basically, I could see them doing coke together in the back of a club.

But it's great that they are friends cause he was just so impolite to her...taking a few seconds for a hearty guffaw at her lies, putting her in check...so satisfying!

i think they're attacking me cause i'm awesome. how's that??

  •  heres the thing (none / 0)

about maher and religion, hes too blind sided by his own arguments. one thing i was hoping "aflac!" and sully would hit maher on is mahers own complaints about the pot smoking community. maher often complains that the movement to legalize pot gets undercut by the idiots who show up to rallys with tye dye shirts, rose glasses and hemp shoes arguing that they want it legalized for "medicinal purposes". well you not what bill? its not just your precious pot issues where there are idiots and assholes, as "aflac!" pointed out.

that doesnt mean you can just paint em all that way.

The last thing that Coulter said was that there were "17 convictions" in connection with Travelgate.  An obvious lie -- the only "conviction" of anyone in the administration was, I believe, Cisneros pleading to a misdemeanor.  And there were no charges even brought re Travelgate.

And yet, the "corrupt" Clinton administration is perpetuated in many minds (not just nuts like Coulter), because people like her get away with lies like this.

    Don't get me started . . .

The closest I want to see her outside of a screen is from the safety of a high-powered telescope, forget getting close enough to....shudder touch her.

  •  I too think this was one of Anne's (none / 1)

milder displays.  What drives me flipping crazy is her incredibly condescending annunciation patterns.  WHO THE HELL TALKS LIKE THAT?  And why would anyone aspire to such a pretentious facade.  I mean she was still batshit crazy, pulling lies out of her ass, as usual, but the intonation that this crackpot has cultivated, come on! It's almost a cross between George Plimpton and Malibu Barbie.
