Good news:
- VA bucks the trend and NJ & CA hold serve for Democrats, adding further proof that Bush ruins everything he touches, and his political capital is gone. America is headed in the wrong direction, and it's time for change. The economy. The environment. Diplomacy. Torture. Ethics. Education. Health Care. Social Security. Stem cells. Gas prices. Inflation.
- Surprisingly, O'Reilly stiff-arms Bush/Cheney and calls bullshit on Big Oil.
On Fox News tonight (no transcript yet), Bill O'Reilly compared current
price gouging by Big Oil to earlier Enron-style corparate corruption and price manipulation. Loyal to the myth of the free market, Ben Stein debated O'Reilly and stubbornly voiced the standard big business talking points. Then O'Reilly countered that he's had confidential conversations with "independent oil middle men" who can testify to Big Oil insider price gouging. Interesting if true. How ironic would it be if the Bush Oil Cartel was embarassed by their Fox News friend, O'Reilly? Or will O'Reilly back down from the Bush machine? Stay tuned...
Now for the bad news...
Also tonight, O'Reilly ridiculed the left when he said that we progressives don't understand that America has now entered WWIII. What? I guess I hadn't realized that President Bush had declared WWIII.
Just in case there was any confusion, O'Reilly later read an email comment tonight from Colleen Stevens of NY blasting him for recently introducing the "WWIII" moniker into the mainstream dialogue. With an opportunity to tone down his rhetoric, he instead made no apology and continued to beat the war drums. If O'Reilly is correct, and we really are in the middle of WWIII, I just wish someone would have told me! Apparently, the self-described bloviator has been saying the sky is falling for since at least early October, when he said: "Talking Points" understands we are engaged in World War III, but also understands that millions of Americans simply will not acknowledge that fact.
In this time of global conflict, I guess all Americans will have to sacrifice because we're all in this together. Maybe it's time that America's uber rich finally follow Warren Buffet's advice and tighten their collective belt by sacrificing their Paris Hilton tax give-aways for the good of the country? Instead of a 60 foot yacht, mabye they can settle for a 40 foot yacht. If America is now in the middle of WWIII, then surely America's gilded elite will proudly give back to this great country that his given them the freedom to live the American Dream.
But for tonight, I'm going to enjoy the good news from VA, NJ & CA. Maybe our voting bretheren has finally smelled the coffee, and there's a light at the end of the tunnel?
