Poll: Will Bush have a _surprise_ visit to Iraq on Thanksgiving?

Tue Nov 15, 2005 at 08:53:26 PM PDT

Bush made a suprise visit to Iraq in Thanksgiving of 2003, and had a nice photo op with the troops holding a plastic turkey. It gave him a slight boost in poll numbers at that time. Bush's approval rating right now is in the mid-thirties, and could go lower. He's toxic to other Republicans and badly needs to stop the hemorrhaging.

He might be desperate enough to use the troops again for a shameless photo op to get back into the mid-forties.

Rice made a suprise trip this week. Does this portend that he will too?

Let's hope Reid and Dean have a response/counterweight planned.

  •  Why so cynical? (none / 1)

Perhaps he can tour Baghdad in an open truck - like he did in New Orleans - so he can personally inspect things, see how well everything's going.

Things ARE going well, right?  It IS safe enough for such a tour, right?

Perhaps the President could go out and mingle with all those Iraqis wanting to thank him personally for liberating them from Hussein.  Think of the great photo-op there.... Women, children, former torture victims (Hussein's not our's).

Let W prove how wrong all those nay-sayers are.  Things aren't as bad as the nasty Democrats are saying.... W will show them.

  •  If you were an insurgent.... (none / 0)

Wouldn't you have Thanksgiving on your calendar? You'd be planning for a visit from W under cover of darkness.

If you were W, you'd know this because you're a professional coward, so you'd stay the hell away from freedom on the march.

    •  Then he'd do best by (none / 0)

avoiding Crawford to, 'cause Camp Casey's gonna be marching toward the ranch.

      Cindy Sheehan is my hero.

I marched against the Iraq War before it began, and believe lobbyists are destroying America--that's why I support Barack Obama for the nomination.

      •  Can't a guy be, er, have some turkey in peace? (none / 0)

That's right, I had forgotten about that.

        Cindy Sheehan is my hero.

Oh yeah. I hope that as more people see the truth about his lies, and since Thanksgiving strikes a more important chord than a five-week summer vacation (which averge Americans don't get), this trip will have a greater impact. People will hopefully think about the soldiers not having dinner with their families, because they're dead or fighting for a pack of lies, just to make little Shrubby look like a strong leader. Well, that plan worked out well.

        Go Cindy Sheehan!

  •  enjoyed your diary - i had the same (none / 0)

curious amusement about rice doing the pr thing in the middle east...

one small wee bit, though... spellcheck is great (it's "surprise!" unless you are writing in bushspeak...)  just a head's up from a word-addict.

i really DO hope he goes to iraq - why, heck! the handlers could take him to the scene of one of those ied incidents (preferably the first one) and let him view closeup the results of his arrogance!

they could use a new pitch for recruits - "watch for a politician coming to a staging area new you!"  or "have your picture taken with the (p)resident/secty of defense/secretary of state/etc."  [notice that nobody gets a photo op with the "real" <snark>man </snark> in charge - the big dick?

yuck, too much madison avenue for my poor brain tonite......

  •  He will pose on the WH lawn (none / 0)

with the official turkey, which he will pardon of course, because it is  a) a tradition to do so, and  b) a good rehearsal for his pardoning of Libby.

Are you speaking "bat?" Is that what bat sounds like?
