Let 'em try to talk their way out of this one.....

Wed Nov 16, 2005 at 09:53:15 AM PDT

It appears from this AP article we (the american military as ordered by the people we sent to D.C. to lead us) admit to using chemical weapons in Iraq during the Fallujah offensive.  We are all complicit in allowing our elected representatives to fuck our country up this bad. It is squarely now in the lap of moderate GOP legislators to call the administration on their shit.

Last week it was "we never used them"
then, "we used them only for illumination."

Now, it's we used them as a weapon but only against insurgents.

How pathetic is that.  It's like "I didn't inhale" and would be funny were it not such a horrific and shameful act.

  •  Didn't we go to REMOVE WMDs ? (none / 0)

    & bring them there?

these are the actions that aid Bin Laden's recruiting efforts.

this is how Al Zarqawi is able to recruit more angry men to extend his network to Jordan.

this is what makes the Muslim world not trust us & not work with us & share their local experience, knowledge & force.

these are the actions that will continue to convince men to come to "liberate" iraq b/c after this & abu graib & gitmo, what muslim man of the street wouldn't be angry about the "ugly Americans occupying a Muslim nation"??

& these are the actions that should remind us that the civilian leadship is completely incomptent b/c maybe a military person can see the military advantage of this weapon but a civilian leadership can look above that & see the short-term military gains do not make up for the geopolitical losses.

    bad bad just plain bad.

  •  Not "chemical weapons" (none / 1)

White Phosphorus is not a chemical weapon.  As has been diaried and discussed earlier, at great length, the issue here is whether civilians were attacked using artillery.

    •  boy are YOU stupid (none / 0)

willie Pete is indeed listed as a banned chemical weapon

just because the US didn't ratify that part of the Geneva conventions does not remove the section from existence

White Phosporous uses as a weapon against humans is a violation of international law, and a crime against humanity

      you could look it up

  •  Do we lack the ability to fight barbarism..... (none / 1)

without using barbarity?  'USA' will be lost if we fight terror by using terror. There will be no point in having this country except as a third world source for corporate sharecropper labor if we throw out the Constitution and the Founding Fathers ideals of reason, enlightenment, civility and science. It may be time to ask the world to participate in our internal struggle. Do we need to ask them to sanction us to put pressure on the wacko's to clean up this mess?

  •  Why is WP not a chemical weapon again? (none / 0)

I'm not buying the argument. That stuff is flat inhumane. If that is legal then why have legal distinctions at all.

    •  It doesn't matter whether you "buy" ... (none / 0)

... the definition.  It is the definition.  Please read the other threads.  One point to ponder is this:  why is it more humane to perforate someone to death than to burn them to death with acid?

That said, your outrage is well-placed.  It is inhumane.

Now check out thermobaric weapons (link may have been taken down yesterday; if so, Google).  Jaw-dropping application of US know-how.

    •  Sad But True (none / 0)

Chemical weapons were a talking point.

White Phosphorus has been classified as an incendiary. It has been noted that some people who manage not to burn to death are poisoned by just being close enough to breathing it in but that is somehow different from poisonous gas.

The difference is White Phosphorus is U.S. Military issue and therefore perfectly acceptable.

This makes me sick to my stomach. The fact that America is flat out inhumane.

The fact that our nation reefers to innocent civilians as Collateral Damage.

But White Phosphorus is not a chemical weapon and torture is justified, just as long as we are the torturers.
