Drat! Tin foiled again! (for real, I think?)

Sat Nov 19, 2005 at 08:42:30 AM PDT

Yesterday evening, after having applied what I thought was a fresh anti-conductive sheet of Aluminium (that's al-yoo-miniyum) to the four walls of my isolated mountain cabin, switched my dKoser ring to the conspiracy receptor frequency and made my nightly entry in my manifesto, I came across what may be the most devastating blow to tin foil hattery since the government switched to Kool-AidTM...

here.

I totally lose it after the jump.

Drat! What grocery store food preservation technology can I look to now to dampen the invasive Rethuglican radio mind control!? What will I use to expose the hidden messages in Bill O'Reilly's radio program!? Dare I press the history eraser button!!? Can I hold out!? Will I hold out!? GHAAAAAA!!

Well at least I can use it to strengthen the reception of the WIFI router I fashioned from bark and that electric beard trimmer I abandoned years ago. The squirells are always trying to nest in that thing.

  •  I am... (4.00 / 4)

Partial to the "Centurion." How about you?

  •  Hmmmm...... (4.00 / 3)

    What about a tupperware helmet?
  •  I think you need to ground the tinfoil (none / 1)

of course, that would pretty well tether you to one spot.  Also, you could build a telsa cage, although they are mostly intent on keeping out signals and not keeping signals from getting in.

It's a conundrum, it really is.

  •  I use a collander. (4.00 / 6)

It only lets the good stuff in, and keeps the bad stuff out. I got it at Ikea, so, everything that's filtered into my brain is in Swedish.

As an aside, I don't speak in uptalk? It just doesn't sound cool? For real.

    •  I sure wish... (none / 1)

...I'd tried the colander idea BEFORE the Tupperware incident -- LOTS more air circulation!!
Also, I wonder that if you buy your colander at, say, WalMart, the signals will make you want to work only part-time and give up any job benefits you might have, and force you to live on a diet of Slushees and Cheetos.

    •  Did you have to... (none / 1)

Assemble the collander after arriving home? Did it involve balsa wood at all? Good news is, I still get the Ikea catalog out here, so I'll take a look.

As far as the uptalk, I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm posting a diary as serious as this one.

  •  I come here for the great scoops... (4.00 / 2)

    ...DKos has 'em!

I do regret exposure to this particular brand of pervasive nastiness here, but I try to overlook in favor of the good stuff.

It almost always amazes me though how utterly carried away you all get with this crap. You've seen some monumental crimes committed here in this very United States. You've seen them with your own eyes and believe your own eyes in most cases. But you're in la, la land when it comes to looking at real facts on certain items.

My question:  Who gets to pick the news items that are credible and the items that get trash like this thread thrown at them? I know you'll say the medium regulates itself. I say we're victims of the "go along to get along" mentality we so often accuse others of. It's a human failing. It usually sucks as a way of life.

I understand we have to protect our precious credibility but truly investigating a credible question or an unusual item (if the item is on your hit list here) gets bombed with belittling. Anyway, you know as well as I do that our credibility comes under the same attack no matter how reasoned and factual or how outlandish.

I really hate this "tin foil hat" accusation and the frat-boy tone of it. Either you're serious about getting to the truth of things or you're not.

Go ahead.  Flames are not a problem.  I like speaking my mind.

    (¯`*._(¯`*._(-IMPEACH-)_.*´¯)_.*´¯) It's not too late!

    •  Holy cow (none / 0)

No flaming here, but jeez, this post is a joke. It is not meant to undermine what some might consider conspiracy theories and others consider objectivity. It's simply a parody. I figure, if you can't laugh at yourself, perhaps you're taking yourself too seriously.

...but it's not usually a joke. Look at the archives.

        •  I was just accused... (none / 1)

Of being a tin foil hatter a few days ago. I know it's not usually a joke, and no offense taken. I just found the whole premise of an empirical study at MIT to be pretty humorous.

          •  Well... (none / 1)

...I clearly went off on the wrong guy. (I do however feel much better having said my bit. </sheepish grin>)

I saw the MIT thing with pictures and all, and would've thought it hilarious if only I wasn't already so annoyed with my side for swallowing and regurgitating the right-wing's attitude and "Conspiracy Theorist" label--hook, line and sinker.

Someone here can attempt to bring in some new, maybe credible, evidence on a taboo subject and the whole crew starts spitting the CT word at him. It sticks in my craw. I'm glad you understand and I'll try to regain my sense of humor and take another look at the MIT thing.

I have no problem taking my licks in the form of criticism. I just anted to make sure that you understood where I was coming from with he sarcasm. Thanks for taking the time to read that series of comments.

              Have a good Sunday.

            •  Also.. (none / 0)

I can't agree more regarding the labeling. I could see if Kossacks were attempting to tie Steve Austin and Sasquatch to the events of 9/11 or Nigergate, but more often than not I feel like debunkers - if grouping them like that could be considered fair - are walking on a bed of eggshells laid out by the Republican party, trying to compensate for media bias.

You might want to check out this TPM article if you haven't already. Pretty interesting.

  •  You think you're paranoid now... (none / 1)

just wait 'till the diary cops show up.  I found it here and here, and I'm sure I saw it at least one other place.  But I am lazy, lazy, lazy and I can't be bothered to do any research.

I like it.  I think it gets funnier each time.

Hugs and kisses from the Diary Anarchy Patrol.

    •  Weird (none / 1)

The search feature on dKos doesn't seem to work very well, or I am not using it properly. I searched for exact phrases in that article and they yielded no results. Anyway, I suppose it doesn't really matter much. This diary fell of the recent list in an hour. They can delete it without a peep from me. I am content with my shotgun and my newly formed independent country, lazyland.

      •  Umm... (4.00 / 2)

#1 I read a lot.  That's what led me to look.  I am in fact really lazy, so I didn't use 'Search' I used Tags.  Mine are sorted alphabetically, I think it's a cookie thing.  My attitude is that if you use The Window of Time that is 'Recent Diary List' and check back 8 hours, you have done your due diligence and should expect nothing but good karma.
        •  I suppose... (none / 1)

I haven't embraced the tagging feature as much as I should have just yet. Next time I will use them. Thanks for the suggestion and the Clockwork Orange imagery. I spend far more time here reading and commenting than I do, uhhh, "diarying?", so I rarely use the feature. Ironic since I am a web developer. I'm not even sure if  search feature's parsing of the diaries is consistent, because it behaves pretty strangely sometimes. They've mentioned that it's buggy. Perl, blechh. I will just delete this diary myself later today.

          •  Clockwork Orange? (none / 1)

            I don't get it.

Delete?  No, no, no.  I mean, not if you had a good time with it and are happy with the response and care that it's on your permanent record here at Hogwarts.

Please, I have some real stinkers- here.

            •  When you said... (none / 1)

"Diary police", I pictured an "A Clockwork Orange" type scene. Kind of fitting with the dKos color scheme, but just my vivid imagination. Kind of in a goofy mood today. It's getting cold here in NY and my first gas heating experience of the coming Winter may be doing away with some brain cells.

On the diary, no sweat. It was fun while it lasted. Oh, and no, I don't watch the NBA anymore. Sprewell (I'm originally from San Francisco) pretty much killed it for me. Although I always did kinda' like the Cavs. Baseball has been meeting my sports fix these days. Thanks again for your comments. I am still relatively new around here.
