On Friday, two Republican Congressman told America that Democrats, Liberals, and especially Rep. Jack Murtha (D) are the allies of our sworn enemies Osama bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. If only, if only, Jack Murtha, Democrats, and liberals would fall in line and support the Republican Party then Iraq would be freed and the war would be won.
Dizzy from their revolving scapegoatism, Republicans have landed the wheel on liberal enemy coddlers. Immigrants are waiting in the wings for their turn as the object of hate du jour but for now Democratic withdrawal proponents such as Jack Murtha are enemy number one. Here's what Republican Geoff Davis had to say:
I'm Geoff Davis from Kentucky, a member of the Subcommittee on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, and also the co- chair of the House Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare.
I think it's important to understand the political climate in which these shameful statements have been made.
Ayman Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's deputy, as well as Abu Musab Zarqawi, have made it quite clear in their internal propaganda that they cannot win unless they can drive the Americans out. And they know that they can't do that there, so they've brought the battlefield to the halls of Congress.
And, frankly, the liberal leadership have put politics ahead of sound, fiscal and national security policy. And what they have done is cooperated with our enemies and are emboldening our enemies.
I think, most importantly, that the soldiers and the Marines on the ground in Iraq have made the statement that with their unbelievable, unprecedented reenlistment rates -- I've talked with hundreds of soldiers and Marines, ranging from junior enlisted soldiers to my West Point classmates who I've known for nearly 30 years and served with in the Middle East myself as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, and they believe in the mission. They see the success. And they ask me, Why is politics consuming this mission that we are clearly winning?
And I would say this for all to hear in America, as well as for our enemies who watch this broadcast: that our exit strategy is winning and supporting the Iraqi people.
Geoff you sure do talk tough but I've got to tell you that Jack Murpha could kick your ass. Now whether that is relevant I won't pretend to know for sure but I do know this. That Marine isn't playing politics on this issue. He feels those 2,000 American deaths and knows the danger faced at this hour by our thousands of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
How to characterize your suggestion that bin Laden and Zarqawi are somehow projecting their will and actually manipulating Democratic politicians here in America? I am pulled strongly to label it asinine. Not polite but Geoff, have you thought this out? You did say this right? :
And they know that they can't do that there, so they've brought the battlefield to the halls of Congress
Are you charging treason here Congressman Davis or suggesting long distance mind-control?
Congressman Davis didn't stand alone in his transparent playing of politics on the issue of Iraq. His neighbor to the north, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt of Ohio, proudly descended into her own chicken-hawk ball brandishing. Listen in (via Kos, via Stakeholder):
Yesterday I stood at Arlington National Cemetery attending the funeral of a young marine in my district. He believed in what we were doing is the right thing and had the courage to lay his life on the line to do it.
A few minutes ago I received a call from Colonel Danny Bop, Ohio Representative from the 88th district in the House of Representatives. He asked me to send Congress a message: Stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, that cowards cut and run, Marines never do.
Danny and the rest of America and the world want the assurance from this body - that we will see this through.
Congresswoman Schmidt, I realize you withdrew your remarks from the record, but you cannot withdraw them from your lips. To call a longtime Marine such as Congressman Murtha a coward is politics at its lowest. It defies reality and you should formally apologize to Rep. Murpha.
Congressman Geoff Davis (R) of Kentucky and Congresswoman Jean Schmidt (R) of Ohio have truly earned a comparison to Joseph McCarthy in their scapegoating and demonizing of their political opposition. Democrats are rightfully coming out and forcefully criticizing their comments which have in just a few sentences painted over half of America as cowards, enemy collaborators, and allies of bin Laden. Schmidt and Murtha should have the favor returned next November by showing their constituents just what despicable people are casting votes for them in the Halls of Congress.
