Last night on TBS was a 2-hour comedy special with a theme: to raise awareness of Global Warming. This diary will quickly summarize the special and it's impact.

I only planned on watching to see the classic Will Ferrel impersination of GWB (it was superb). But, as I watched, I was really overwhelmed at the amount of thought and effort put into the show. There was some silly routines by Cedric, Ben Stiler, Jack Black. Steve Martin (surpirisingly good banjo solo), Tom Hanks and Eric Idle had a string-instrument trio. Larry David had a very funny bit.
But the touching segments were nothing short of profound. At one point, Leo DiCaprio and another star were reading astronauts' writings on how we are all children of the Earth, and how we are charged in protecting it. They quote several astronauts, and come to Jim Lovell of Apollo 13 fame, when Lovell himself comes out to speak.
Bill Maher had a passionate bit about electing politicians who will take care of our enviroment. He urged people to "vote their organs instead of your checkbook." He made his views on the administration clear early, and received a few boo's. Very quickly after, the crowd cheered every point.
Finally, the last celeb to come out was Robert Kennedy Jr. He discussed the titanic impact of global warming, and how every small step we take will help.
I apologize for the memory-fading recall; hopefully this weekend I can track down a video. If so, I will post clips and/or quotes.
In the meantime, I urge everyone to sign up for the Virtual March! The website is http://www.stopglobalwarming.org.
The more people who join, the better chanch of the issue being taken as seriously as it is.
The site also has a great list of things everyone here can do to reduce carbon emissions, ranging from driving a hybrid to changing your shower head. Check them out here.
