This year you and every member of your family spent $305 on the war in Iraq. That's $1220 for a family of four. Now, I don't know about you, but I can think of a whole lot of better ways to spend that money. Hell, I'd even be willing to contribute my portion ($610) to deficit reduction if it meant helping some fiscally conservative Kool-Aid addicts get off the juice.
No matter how else the money might have been spent, I know one thing for sure: I don't like the idea of having bought the white phosphorus that burnt an entire neighborhood to the ground somewhere in Iraq. I don't like it one little bit. In fact, it makes me physically ILL just thinking about it. I need a day off. How about you?
Well, if you're SICK of being lied to, of having your tax dollars go toward killing and maiming in the name of Halliburton's profit (and Dick's pension, which is far more secure than your own), of people being killed and maimed in your name, I have a modest proposal for you: Join
The Great American Sickout on December 7 (and the seventh of every month thereafter up to Election Day on November 7)!
It's like the Boston Tea Party all over again. We're gonna hit 'em where it hurts, in the economy. We're gonna sneak up on 'em and sucker punch their asses, a brave bunch of patriots disguised as Indians. Look, I ain't no commie. I believe in Truth, Justice, and the American Way. I believe in hard work and paying taxes to the benefit of society. But I am so FUCKING fed UP of being a docile sheep that, God damn it, I'm gonna take the day off on December 7 to register my protest. Frankly, I don't know what I'll do that day. I might show up at City Hall with a sign, or I might just chill at home, but I am officially withholding my labor from the global economic machine for one day; this cog is sending the message that he's cognizant and none too pleased.
More than that, I've told ten people in the real world, and they're all on board, and they're telling ten people and, goddess willing, they're telling ten people, and so on. If it works out the way it should, a fuck of a lot of people are gonna call in SICK and send a message that we're SICK of this BULLSHIT.
Now, you might think that I'm just some kind of discontent who dislikes his job, boss or employer, but nothing could be further from the truth. I simply need to take a real stand somehow, and this seems to be the easiest way to do it. If we can get even 10 million people on board by December 7, eminently doable, we will collectively make a powerful statement. If it grows month after month until Election Day, we will flex enormous muscle and we might even end this damn war and put the lying criminals who started it behind bars where they belong.
Or we can do nothing... but I think that, at this point, knowing what we know, inaction is complicity.
Tell ten people.
