This is partly a mini-tribute to the character actor John Vernon (who died this past February) best known as "Dean Wormer". But in addition, it is amazing to me that, 27 years after its film release, various taglines from "Animal House" are still being cited. In numerous political editorials, commetaries and essays, one sees talk about "double secret probation", and I've seen sports teams in playoff series post "It's not over until we say it's over" on their message boards.
And so, for some light-hearted spirit to carry us into Thanksgiving dinner which - as has been noted on Kos elsewhere - should be much more pleasant than last year (when your wingnut brother-in-law couldn't help himself from piling it on,) after the jump, you will find:
(a) That mini-tribute to John Vernon, and
(b) A poll on your favorite "Animal House" tagline:
A salute to the late John Vernon (Dean Wormer):
Born - 24 February 1932 in Zehner, Saskatchewan, Canada
Died - 1 February 2005 in Los Angeles, California, USA (of complications following heart surgery)
Studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England, and had many roles ...character player who convinces as crafty villains, morally bankrupt officials and heartless authority figures in American films and TV since the 1960s. Vernon has been directed by some stellar filmmakers including Alfred Hitchcock (Topaz (1969), George Cukor (Justine (1969), Don Siegel (Dirty Harry (1971), and Clint Eastwood (The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976). But was best known as Dean Wormer in the 1978 National Lampoon movie "Animal House."
