I've had enough of your posturing, positioning, twisting with the wind. Enough already. There you have been, acting like the shadow Secretary of State for the -sic - "opposition", giving speeches, blabbering on about "our interests" and what you think we should do as if anyone gave a damn what you have to say about anything. Honestly, point me to one person not related to you who cares what you say.
And here you are again today, editorializing away at the Post, following John "we need a timetable" Kerry and John "the war was a mistake" Edwards. You went with the hot, innovative heading:
Time for an Iraq Timetable"".
Didn't you say, last week, after Congressman Murtha finally took the lead on this miserable mess, that you "weren't quite there yet", or something to that effect? So, today, you want a timetable, hey? Am I supposed to be impressed?
As Congressman Murtha told you, "the American people are way ahead of [you and the likes of you]." All I want from you - and the rest of the war resolution signatories - is to follow our lead, drop the pretense and start earning your salary for a change. Stop playing to whatever imaginary audience you think you have - this is not the Imus show - and just do your job of representing the people of Delaware instead of patronizing all of us and lecturing Iraqis. Who do you think you are?
Of course, the Iraqi people are and have been way ahead of you as well. You've heard Congressman Murtha cite the British poll that has Iraqis wanting the occupation to end by 82 % and 45% of them supporting the armed resistance. But listen to yourself:
[We need to redeploy] because we cannot sustain 150,000 Americans in Iraq without extending deployment times, sending soldiers on fourth and fifth tours, or mobilizing the National Guard. Even if we could, our large military presence -- while still the only guarantor against a total breakdown -- is increasingly counterproductive.
Is that so ? Not because this sham of an occupation was wrong from the start ? And when you say that:
our military presence [..] is still the only guarantor against a total breakdown
is that supposed to be based on data, historical facts or expertise or do you just like to listen to yourself spout undocumented colonial tripe ?
Then you follow that tortured, bushcheneyan justification to still try and avoid full retreat out of Iraq with the acknowledgement that :
A liberation has become an occupation.
No shit, Sherlock, where have you been ? And, newsflash, quit lying, I can't take any more lies from you or any of the other foreign policy fools populating DC. It was never a « liberation », I don't care what you say.
It was a brutal, murderous, unjustified invasion and occupation that you supported, advocated, defended endlessly - presumably seeking to show you can do war too, just like Hillary and a bunch of others like you. When will you acknowledge your horrid, murderous mistake, the blood on your hands ? When?
Of course, you are worried, your angst is palpable - not because of those who died or were injured and maimed for life - some of them soldiers or resisters, most of them innocent Iraqis going about their business - oh no:
There is another critical question: As our soldiers redeploy, will our security interests in Iraq remain intact or will we have traded a dictator for chaos?
Define what you mean by « our security interests in Iraq ». Somehow, I doubt they mesh with those of the average Iraqis who cannot wait to see the back of our « security services in Iraq ». Do you mean by that sentence that you still wish to dictate how Iraqis run their own affairs ?
If that's the case, you're better off maintaining a full fledged occupation, adding a few more troops like that colonial jerk Mc Cain wants. Can't be done otherwise. If you were sincere, if all you care about is the well being of US troops and Iraqi citizens, your best bet is to get out, sooner rather than later and without conditions.
But seems to me, you, of no valid or relevant expertise of any sort, wish to impose conditions, just like bushcheneyrice don't you ?
Listen to your bloated, arrogant self:
Over the next six months, we must forge a sustainable political compromise between Iraqi factions, strengthen the Iraqi government and bolster reconstruction efforts, and accelerate the training of Iraqi forces.
You seem to still be under the illusion that the occupation has a role to play. It doesn't. Cite one example of a colonial power imposing its will on the natives in any lasting way. Doesn't happen, not with a three year old occupation, not with a century old occupation. Remind me again: what was the influence of the British crown on the US Constitution?
Why do you even bother? Who are you trying to impress? Do you imagine anyone with half a brain, in the US or in Iraq, pays attention to what you - and others like you - have to say about Iraq? Save your breath and stick to bridge, or whatever it is that the Delaware citizens expect you to do on their behalf. You're an embarrassment, shut up and go hide yourself.
