A motion to vote on non-confidence of the minority Liberal Party government (backed by the New Democrat party coaliotion) is to happen moments from now. The Conservative party forced the motion, with their minority of popular support (about 35%), gambling that they would gain seats in parliament after the Gomery inquiry results were released. The inquiry was into a recent "sponsorship" scandal that would have rocked the previous Chretien government, and threatens to haunt the current one.
Paul Martin, leader of the Liberals is content to let the marginalized Conservative party force the Christmas election, and take their chances on a skeptical and sometimes spiteful voting public (see Jim Peterson)
Anyway, off we go, for those Canadians, and other people who are interested in parliamentary multi party systems - this is an interesting one for sure.

My prediction is that we'll end up basically back where we were before the election, shuffle a few seats around, keeping the basic balance of power that over 60% of Canadians still support.
