Like most of you, I just received an
email from the Kerry campaign, indicating that Karl Rove's 90 day negative media campaign has ended (although it will surely continue).
Republicans were salivating at the opportunity to destroy Kerry in Dukakisian proportions. They were talking as though the battle had already been won. After all, Kerry is a Democratic senator from Massachusetts. All they had to do was dust off the ol' '88 game plan -- and just for good measure, quadruple its size, scope, and intensity. Honestly, we all figured it was a slam dunk. Well, at the very least, we were concerned.
But as Kerry has pointed out, like everything else Bush has done, his media campaign has been a miserable failure, to coin a phrase.
Now that Rove's media smear tactic seems to be a paper tiger, I have to wonder where he can bring the campaign from here. People criticize Kerry for not finding his message, but compare that to Bush, who right now looks a lot like the LA Lakers.
If you were Rove, what would you do?
