It's less than 48 hours until the Florida Democratic Convention (Conference... whatever.) begins at the Contemporary Hotel in Orlando. For those who are Disney-challenged, the Contemporary is the A-frame style hotel that the monorail goes straight through the middle of. I grew up in Orlando and went to Disney all the time as a kid, but this is actually the first time I will set foot on the actual floor of the Contemporary.
This isn't about me though, it's about Dave. He has called and e-mailed all the Congressional challengers throughout the state for 2006 and is getting them all together for an ad-hoc caucus, near the county chairs meeting on Friday.
Karen Thurman and the FDP have been somewhat lax on supporting Congressional candidates. For example, there are pages (on the FDP website
Fladems.com) dedicated to reelecting Senator Nelson, the two gubernatorial candidates, and the Florida Legislature efforts. All these are crucial to Democratic efforts, but I am a Congressional campaign manager, so I have a bit of an astigmatic view. We haven't seen a lot of mutual support for Congressional candidates, so we're creating it ourselves! Congressional candidates have been invited to meet each other, exchange ideas and hopefully get some hints on how to help take back the House.
All the candidates, including Dave, are running for the same reasons. The culture of corruption in Washington has gone too far. The influence from K Street Neocons and big business, including Big Oil, on our "Congresspeople" has gone too far. The unwillingness of Congress to represent the people has gone too far.
Dave is fighting to make government accountable again, to improve health care, to boost education, to balance the budget and to free us from the tyranny of foreign oil, once and for all. This will create jobs, invigorate a new economy and an American renaissance powered by alternative fuels.
Along with trying to destroy Social Security and creating a prescription program so convoluted it takes training seminars to understand, the Rubberstamp Millionaire has been working on....
Fixing the Bowl Championship Series and steroids in baseball.
Well, whatever you think is in the interest of your constituents. I personally think the Gators got hosed in the BCS.
I smell a new career.
Until then, I'll keep fighting to make sure commissioner Stearns gets his wish: No 'roids, college football playoffs and Dave Bruderly in Congress.
See you in Orlando!
P.S. How about leaving a tip for the starving campaign... er... artist?
