More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Paging L. Weicker to the purple courtesy phone.... (none)
Paging Lowell Weicker to the purple courtesy phone  . . . your old Senate seat could be up for grabs again, and there are plenty of Democrats who will support you . . .
    •  Weicker may not run. (none)
If not, and it is possible Lowell won't run, then someone should be made ready to run and Joe's part in the murderous farce called Bush's Wars should be fully exploited.

Joe Lieberman wants to kill your children for oil and other resources.  Joe's idea of a terrorist is an honest person who would vote against him.

I think these points can be exploited in Connecticut.

      •  Joe and AIPAC (none)
His association with them is way over the top. AIPAC is not good for this country.

On a totally different subject, The Memory Hole has an article about Lieberman scrubbing his ties with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews for his 2004 Presidential campaign. From the article:

If you haven't been paying attention lately, fundie Christians are growing ever more supportive of Israel, since the creation of that country and the return of Jews to it are two of the big steps on the way to the joys of Armageddon, the Apocalypse, the Rapture, etc., etc. The Fellowship plays on these beliefs by constantly invoking "biblical prophecy," conveniently forgetting that in the End Times scenario, Jews must either convert to Christianity or roast in hell forever.

Religion combined with foreign policy can a bitter pill, but putting the charge of 'anti-semite' on Joe's detractors for his support of right-wing Israeli politicians might be a bit misplaced, especially since the Left in Israel has become so marginalized by the corrupt right (just like here in the US!).

..putting supposed Israeli security needs ahead of real US interests  at the expense of American blood and treasure make him?

  •  The pictures... (none)
in this thread (so far) are pretty disgusting - almost as disgusting as Holy Joe, himself. Why don't we just boot Joementum right out of the Democratic Party if he can't see his way to support the agenda of his Caucus and its Leader?

What are we afraid of? Let's suppose the lack of any support from the Connecticut and/or National Democratic Party causes Joe to lose his Senate seat (highly doubtful). Do you suppose a real Connecticut Republican would be any worse than Joe is right now?

At the very least (supposing that Joe is reelected in 2006) Harry Reid should strip him of ALL his Senate Committee assignments and treat him just like he is a member of the Republican Party. That would include Joe's being banned from attending Senate Democratic Caucus meetings.

Of course, I am going to wind up eating crow three meals per day if the Democrats win 51 Senate seats in 2006 and Joe's seat is one of them!

  •  That picture is really not helpful (none)
There are lots of us who believe that Lieberman should face a primary challenge and hopefully lose. But that picture is juvenile.
    •  The picture (none)
What's really odd about that photo is it is a composite of Bush being attended to by somebody else, perhaps a Secret Service attending to Bush's open fly.

Believe it or not, I only pasted Joe's head in the image.

  •  Well (2.00)
I guess you all would rather have Senator Shays, Johnson, or Simmons and one vote less for Reid. I don't like a lot of what Lieberman does, but we don't have 55 Seats; and we can't afford to have this seat lost.
    •  Yes, I Would (none)
When people like Lieberman hold office as a "Democrat" it dilutes the Democratic Party's message and reinforces the criticism that the Democrats take both sides of every issue and don't stand up for anything.

Let's remove the cancer from the Democratic Party and make it united, healthy and strong.  Then maybe we can defeat the Republican Party and lead the country once again.

      •  Well (2.50)
Unfortunately there aren't enough seats. Yes I don't like what Lieberman does, but it's a vote for Reid. If he were to stop voting for the leadership I'd agree with the fringe lefists here. Until then, though, he's a vote we need unfortunately.
    •  Re: Well (none)
Are you saying that we shouldn't criticize Joe in a time of war and that criticism could undermine his credibility?
    •  Stupid comment (none)
      Trollish.

I rate it zero because that is not the choice.

      •  Why is it trollish (none)
I don't think I said anything offensive there, just that we can't afford to lose any seats.
        •  And the trollishness (none)
was assuming anyone else wants to.

          It is bullshit from you.

A different DEM and you know it.

It was trollish because it deliberately misstated the views you claim to be arguing against.

You might disagree with it, but that doesn't make it trollish.

Armando, it's a good thing that you're going.  You may offer a funny quibble now and again (though I never really found you all that funny) but you've relegated the debate down to "you're a poopy pants."  Have fun, poopy pants.

    •  He now has negative value (none)
He got quoted with approval by Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh, Hannity, and the Wall Street Journal editorial page, in the space of one week. He's done enormous and irreparable damage to the Democratic Party. It's time for him to go. Now.

    •  If my only option was (2.50)
Jeb as an opponent to Lieberman, I would support Jeb.  Lieberman is such a cancer to the Democratic Party that I would support even a right-wing Rethug to oppose him.  It isn't even close.

Of course I would much prefer a Democrat or Lowell Weicker.

  •  So I guess Connecticut *is* a Red state, then? (none)
After all, if Joe Lieberman's the only Democrat who can get elected there, and on a good day, in the right light, you can just barely tell him from a Republican - then it can't be a Blue State at all, can it?

Sounds like we've got a better chance of electing a Democrat to Congress up here in NH, and our state Democratic party couldn't find its ass with both hands and a flashlight, and only won back the governorship because a) the Republican ex-CEO governor had so badly alienated everyone in the capital, even his own side, with his corruption and bullying that he was the first one-term governor in 80-some years, and b) the current governor was an independent who ran his own campaign, and knew what he was doing.

Now,  given that our R congresscritters are not particularly offensive and take great pains not to be, and yet are at odds with both the national party and a growing disillusioned and increasingly Independent-registered voter base at home, given that Granny D got a good chunk of the vote, with no real campaign and no odds of winning,

-- well, if Paul Hodes can manage not to hand over his campaign money to a con artist, whether or not Kathy Sullivan can find a spine long enough to stop apologizing to the Republicans when they get mad at her for calling them crooks on the rare occasions when she nerves herself to tell the truth, we will probably have a Democratic senator before CT does.
