Leaking Lawyers: Rove To Go Down / Hannah To Roll On Rove

Tue Dec 13, 2005 at 11:01:37 AM PDT

Apparently, Rove is about to go down due two factors, according to the leaking lawyers of Treasongate:  Hannah rolling over on him and the now infamous Hadley email.

Great Rove comb-over picture AND yet another excellent Jason Leopold and Larisa Alexandrovna scoop.

Hadley:

Fitzgerald was concerned that Rove had hidden or destroyed evidence, lawyers close to the case tell RAW STORY. His suspicions may have been right: an email he sent to then Deputy National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley in early July 2003 later proved Rove had spoken to Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper about Plame--a fact that Rove omitted when he was first interviewed by the FBI.

Hannah:

Hannah gave Fitzgerald the names of some White House officials who knew about Plame Wilson and disseminated her CIA status to reporters and other White House officials, the laywers said. One of the officials Hannah appears to have implicated was Rove, they added.

Get the champaign ready!  We may very well have an indictment in time for Christmas, er Fitzmas!

Per Terre's suggestion, this update, which somewhat makes this story news:
Short of a last minute intervention by Rove's attorney, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is expected to ask a grand jury investigating the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson to indict Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove for making false statements to the FBI and Justice Department investigators in October 2003, lawyers close to the case say.

  •  Link? (none / 0)

    You should link to the story.
  •  It's encouraging that this is in the news (none / 0)

    But what is Rawstory hyping here?

    What is the new stuff?

    Didn't we already know all of this?

    •  I think this is the quote that's missing (4.00 / 3)

      from The Gnostic's diary:

      On another note - damn the site is slow today.

    •  Here's a quickie outline (none / 0)

      for major events in the last month:

    •   11-10-05  Viveca Novak, not under oath, meets informally with Fitzgerald;

    •   11-18-05  Fitzgerald empanels a new grand jury; AND Viveca's lawyer, Hank Schuelke, calls her to say that Fitz wants a deposition and meeting with her, under oath, on 12-10-05;

    •   12-02-05  Robert Luskin testified in a deposition;

    •   12-07-05  Fitzgerald meets with grand jury for about 3 hours;

    •   12-08-05  Viveca testifies in a deposition for 1 1/2 hours.

    •   12-13-05  Speculation continues as we sit on pins and needles, while simultaneously drumming our fingers on the desk, and hitting refresh over and over.

      Luskin appears to have bought additional time for Rove to remain in the WH, nothing else.  It appears to me that the initial conversation that Fitz had with Viveca was the nail that sealed Rove's coffin.

  •  the news is the leaking lawyers.. (none / 1)

    ..saying that rove's ass is grass.

    the leaking lawyers have usually been right.

  •  On the first day... (4.00 / 7)

    ...of Fitzmas, my true love gave to me, the indictment of Scooter Libby.

    On the second day of Fitzmas, my true love gave to me, two rolling aides and the indictment of Scooter Libby...

  •  Why just Champaign? (4.00 / 12)

    Shouldn't all of Illinois celebrate?  Or the whole country, for that matter?
  •  Pfff, rawstory (none / 1)

    When will people learn?

    Jason Leopold is the guy that was on Ed Schulz a few days before Fitzmas saying he thought "as many as a dozen", IIRC, people would be indicted. Wooo.

  •  I made some open thread comments (none / 1)

     on this story an hour or so back, here.

    Firstly, the source is always the most important part of these stories. In this case, the source is apparently Luskin. He is kind of waving the white flag as far as some kind of indictment, but maintains that his little Novak extravaganza may have save Rove from some serious charges. Myself, I'm not so sure about that last.

    Secondly, there might be a another person in the soup and that person would be our old pal Stephen "16 words" Hadley. (is anyone else struck by the the resemblance between Hadley and Steven Hawking? ).

  •  if only it were so (4.00 / 2)

    I'm really broke and not really in the HOLIDAY (yeah, that's what I said) spirit these days, but I tell ya, a little Rove roasting on an open flame would really do me a world of good....

    "Why can't you and the idea of separation of powers just hug it out, bitch?" Wonkette

  •  I have a very strong feeling (none / 1)

    Someone else is involved.  All of the attention has been on Rove and Libby, but remember Matt Cooper on MTP?  He said there were others, Woodward seems to have a different source, this article mentions 'others'.  I hope we are pleasantly surprised.

    Sorry, will wait to see what (if anything) unfolds before playing ClueTM again.

  •  Damn! (none / 0)

    Yet another cogitus interruptus!!  Can't get no satisfaction ... until ... Rove is in the slammer.
  •  I'm thinkin' Rove and Hadley are gonna (none / 0)

    have a bumber Fitzmas. Just a hunch. We shall see.
