Why does our government claim that it can capture people anywhere in the world and hold them indefinitely without charging a crime or providing judicial review? 9/11
Why does our government claim that it can torture people? 9/11
Why does our government claim that the Geneva and Hague Conventions are "quaint, antiquated laws" that no longer apply to the U.S.? 9/11
Why does our government claim that the NSA can spy on U.S. citizens domestically without a court order? 9/11
How does our government justify simultaneously cutting taxes on the wealthiest Americans while cutting aid and infrastructure programs, and INCREASING military spending? 9/11
How does our government justify creating a private army of civilian contractors who answer to no one but the President, with no Congressional oversight, and inflated costs? 9/11
How does our government justify invading a sovereign nation over the objections of the United Nations? 9/11
So, if it's good enough for the government, can we use the excuse too?
Let's see...
Can one feel the need to hoard money and not pay income taxes because of the financial uncertainties that exist in the world today because of 9/11?
How about instead of the "dog ate my homework," our kids now tell their teachers that "I couldn't finish my homework because I was stressed out over 9/11"?
Maybe everyone who works in tall buildings should quit their jobs and apply for disability/unememployment benefits because they're afraid to go to work "because of 9/11."
Can we as individuals go around and blow up the homes and businesses of people we view as a security or economic threat to our interests "because of what happenned on 9/11"?
Will the "9/11 defense" become the new trendy argument for criminal defendants in jury trials? (Any bets as to whether Libby's lawyers invoke 9/11?)
How about spouses using 9/11 as a justification for infidelity?
Where will the use of the 9/11 excuse finally end? Most members of Congress still cower when 9/11 is invoked. The only way to get our country back is to vote out any member of Congress who is not asking the hard questions and demanding accountability of the government.
