Former Massachussets Gov. William Weld is running for New York State Governor as a Republican, but it has recently been disclosed that he may be touched by the culture of corruption. Before engaging on his Gubenatorial bid, he was chief executive officer of Decker College, a Louisville, Ky. trade school. The school went under, and so may any hopes Weld may have of upsetting his Democratic challenger, State Attorney General Elliot Spitzer.
The school closed on October 21, three days after a raid by 40 federal agents seeking evidence of conspiracy to defraud, wire fraud and student financial aid fraud. A former dean has come public with accusations that he was fired after he found employees falsifying records and recruiters arranging federal loans for students who cannot read.
A Story in last Sunday's New York Times has the details.
But wait, there's more! The former payroll supervisor, Sherrie Moore and the former admissions director, have also emerged with accusations that William Weld knew all about the shenanigans, the details of which can be found here.
The comments appearing in the Observer originally appeared as comments in the Next Hurrah blog to a post titled "Shame on William Weld".
Former Gubenatorial candidate Tom Golisano is currently contmplating entering the race, having recently switched to the GOP from the Independence Party (New York's version of the Reform Party).
