this:
WASHINGTON, Dec 20 (Reuters) - A senior Senate Democrat said on Tuesday that prospects were brightening that a provision included in a massive defense spending bill that would allow oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) was closer to being dropped.
The fate of the Alaskan refuge, which shelters caribou and migratory birds in the summer and becomes a polar bear nursery in the winter, has been debated in Congress for decades.
"I think we're close," said Richard Durbin, an Illinois senator who is also the assistant Democratic leader in the chamber.

Witness a pig at the
corporate trough who then allows the corporations to eat at the public trough: it's called pay-for-play:
Over the past six years, the former House majority leader and his associates have visited places of luxury most Americans have never seen, often getting there aboard corporate jets arranged by lobbyists and other special interests.
Public documents reviewed by The Associated Press tell the story: at least 48 visits to golf clubs and resorts with lush fairways; 100 flights aboard company planes; 200 stays at hotels, many world-class; and 500 meals at restaurants, some averaging nearly $200 for a dinner for two.
