From Lynn Sweet's Monday column (Chicago Sun-Times):
The Duckworth campaign, orchestrated by Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), chief of the House Democratic political operation -- who nationally has been recruiting Iraq vets for House races -- will be boosted by Illinois Democratic Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama.
"I'm just solidly in Tammy Duckworth's corner," Durbin said Friday as Obama, standing at his side, nodded in agreement.
Emanuel, Durbin and Obama are national Democratic Party leaders who are expected to use their considerable fund-raising ability to assist Duckworth.

I understand that, unlike Durbin, Obama at least had the decency to call Cegelis and tell her of his decision before she read about it in the papers. But it sure seems like Obama is thumbing his nose at the kind of grassroots progressives who were the heart, soul, and muscle of his own Senate campaign when he started out, without whose help he might never have caught on to overtake big shot primary opponents like Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes and (by virtue of his money) Blair Hull.
Does Obama really feel that his political future is best served by allying himself with the likes of Rahm Emanuel rather than dancing with those who brung him?
