We all know that there is a very disturbing trend within the Democratic Party that we had hoped Howard Dean would solve. That being, the subversion of progressive grassroots politics. It basically proves that the DLC not the DNC runs the Democratic Party.
What is especially disturbing about this, is it is happening right at Ground Zero 2000. PALM BEACH COUNTY! Our chairman isn't doing a great job and Rahm Emanuel's got us between a rock and a hard place.
The worst thing is definetly our congressional elections. Robert Watson, the grassroots candidate for District 22, was driven out of the race because his campaign was left for dead by the party because they wanted to get behind big money State Senator Ron Klein for the race.
Currently, the DCCC and its local entities in the Democratic Executive Committee are trying to force David Lutrin and CAROL MCLEAN (who I'm on board with) out of the race against Mark Foley in favor of, once again, BIG MONEY Tim Mahoney, who couldn't beat an egg white let alone Mark Foley.
What it comes down to, is that we need to say this. We shouldn't be talking about how much a race costs! And that's on all levels from Soil & Water Commission to President of the United States.
And now the strategy for sticking it to them! Donate to their campaigns, but make token donations, $20 at the most. If they call you for more, give them a stern NO and tell them you're "more than a piggy bank" as one blogger put it. If they don't have a strong grassroots base and refuse to start one, support them with your vote and YOUR vote only. It's up to us to take back our party.
The following is probably not going to sit well with many visitors of this site. Here it goes... Not ALL DLC members are bad. There is a small minority of members who are good progressives. One in this area is State Senator David Aronberg. Hopefully, you all will know who he is soon enough. I hope to see him in the White House eventually.
Also, as far as statewide races go, the Governor's Race is the best bet for progressives, my candidate State Senator Rod Smith, has embraced grassroots progressive policies such as more funding for Medicaid, Protecting Privacy Rights, and unheard of in Florida... Gay Adoption, as centerpieces of his campaign. I am leading a group of a few dozen Young Democratic volunteers for him here in Palm Beach County.
Bottom line, money is necessary but a campaign can't run on it alone. And it's not our job to appease that system!
