Dick Morris on Hillary vs. Condi

Thu Dec 08, 2005 at 03:17:15 PM PDT

I like the Sydney Morning Herald.  They often have articles about the U.S. from a different perspective than is given stateside.  (Registration is required for some articles but it is free.)

Dick Morris and spouse apparently have this to say in their new book:

If the thought of another Clinton presidency excites you, then the future looks bright. Hillary Clinton is on a virtually uncontested trajectory to win the Democratic nomination and, very likely, the 2008 election.

"Very likely"?  Oh come now, Dick Morris doesn't believe that.

But her victory is not inevitable. There is one, and only one, figure who can stop Hillary Rodham Clinton: the Secretary of State, Condoleezza "Condi" Rice. Among all of the possible Republican candidates, Rice alone could win the nomination, defeat Hillary and derail a third Clinton administration.

Huh?  I have to ask: What planet is Dick living on these days? Rice alone could win the Repug nom and defeat Hillary?  That strikes me as very strange.  What about McCain?  I don't have much respect for him after watching him kiss Bush's ass after being slimed by Bush's henchmen, but I think he is far more electable than Rice.

Truthfully, I don't think America is ready to elect a woman as president.  (I'm not sure when it will be ready to elect a non-white president.)  Many women who have become the leaders of their respective countries did so in parliamentary systems where they were not voted in directly by the voters.  And although I once thought that America would have a woman and/or non-white president in my lifetime, with the growth of the fundies, I'm no longer so sure.  I hope I'm wrong.  I wonder what others think.

Anyway, go read the excerpt; it's pretty amusing.  What makes Dick think he knows whom Democrats will vote for?  What makes him think he knows anything?

  •  Morris Is Deep In The Republican Pocket (none / 0)

Saying exactly what they want to hear, and want us to believe, at least up until the convention, but not after the next election. I for one will be voting for someone in the primary who actually speaks for me.
  •  No Bushes or Clintons (none / 1)

nor anyone from their administrations, except for Al Gore. I'd work 24/7 for him.
  •  I think that.... (none / 0)

...the attitude of some on the left that "America isn't ready for a woman/minority President" is part of the problem. When will we be ready? When the stars are properly aligned? When God says so? Fill me in here.
  •  Dick (4.00 / 2)

is a regular guest on "Hannity and the other guy" where he repeatedly demonstrates that he doesn't know Jack Shit.  I really get a kick out of the guests on that show.  Bill Bennett.  Ann Coulter.  And the other day, they had Mark Furman on to talk about Tookie Williams' clemency plea.  You know, good, objective folks.

Sweet Jesus, how I hate Sean Hannity!

Come on, the guy for years said there was no way Hillary would run for the senate in NY.  He's a fool.

      •  Foot fetishes (none / 1)

I once represented a kid who would break into houses or sneak up on women and make them remove their shoes, and then rub or suck on their toes.  The media made a joke of the case.  I had to do some p-shrink research on foot fetishes, and found that they are actually pretty serious things.

Fred Berlin, M.D., professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins and head of the National Institute for the Study, Prevention, and Treatment of Sexual Trauma, in Baltimore, sees this as "a very ticklish area." Foot fetishism is usually "quite compulsive." Those affected "usually can't get aroused without it" and are so narrowly focused that they "cannot live fully sexually."
  •  America is ready for a women president.. (none / 1)

But it won't be a Democratic war supporter or another member of the Bush Admnistration who isn't ashamed to tell lies to the world...

Colin Powell used to be popular until he was forced to speak Bush Speak for several years and now we know he has low self-esteem.

If Condi can't tell the truth now, why should we believe her later?

If Hillary STILL doesn't get that the Iraq war is a mistake, why should we trust HER to be commander-in-chief?

  •  The Only (none / 0)

people I have ever heard talk about Hillary as a possible candidate are Republicans.  They might as well be screaming "please don't throw me in the briar patch."

That said, I would love to see Bill as the first first husband.  If we did put her on the ticket, they'd run CONdi as a throwaway like Dole just so they could claim to be more progressive than the progressives.

    Pigs every one of them.

  •  A Reminder (none / 1)

I scanned thru the comments, & I don't seem to see it mentioned anywhere...so just to make sure everyone knows:

    Dick Morris is a whore.

Remember, this needs to be said at least once a day & twice on Sundays.

  •  FYI... (none / 0)

Dick's latest book, "Condi vs. Hillary" only made the NY Times best-seller list the week it came out.

It was ranked #11, and was the only book on the list with a dagger (†)... indicating bulk sales.

the following week it wasn't even among the top 35 selling books.

Richard Mellon Scaife is likely the only one who actually paid for the book... everyone else who owns it probably got a free copy for joining NewsMax.com

  •  Dick Morris is crazy (none / 0)

Condi wont run, I doutb Hillary will get the nomination. This is man who said that Hillary would take the 04 nomination for prez from John Kerry at the Democratic convention. Dont listen to anything he says.
  •  Let's get real (none / 0)

Condi is a single, black woman.  Anyone who thinks she's going to make it through the Southern state Republican primaries is smoking an illegal substance.  Ask Bobby Jindal how it worked out for him.  She'd poll extremely well until the good ol' boys actually got in the voting booth.

As McCain's VP?  That, I can see.

    •  Single (none / 0)

Precisely.  That's another no-go.  Also childless.

Personally I'd love to have a president who is Native American, lesbian, disabled, unmarried, atheist, childless, brilliant, caring and liberal.  I don't expect to see that anytime soon.

  •  Way below the radar... (none / 0)

Condi has benefited from soundbite exposure and no scrutiny.  She would quickly be exposed as an airhead once a national campaign ramped up.  She is a former board member of Exxon, for crying out loud.

  •  Condi... (none / 0)

...supports torture.  Everytime someone points out how she can make good decisions, or how she is "female" and takes a little of the edge off rabid neocon masculinity as evidenced by Rumsfeld or Cheney, remind yourself and the world that this woman is a pro-torture flack.  I also don't agree with the media portrayals of her intelligence.  Loyalty (and unrequited love for her "husband") is what got her where she is.

  •  Neither will be the nominee (none / 0)

of their respective party.  Hell, I don't think it's that likely that Hillary or Condi will run at all in 2008.   I agree with the previous poster who pegged
Condi as a possible VP candidate, though.

My way early line is for Warner  as the Democratic nominee (though my first choice would either be Clark or Edwards) and either McCain or Allen getting the GOP nod.

  •  He's contemptible, but correct on this issue... (none / 0)

Uncle Ben's Convuluted Rice will be nominated as either VP or President. Won't make it through Southern primaries? I beg to differ. You are making the same facile mistake that we made regarding Katrina. It isn't about race, it's about class and politics. Southern Republicans know which side their bread is buttered on and Miss Rice will be happy to slather it right up to the upper crust.

Fascists usually aren't racist when persons of a certain race are fascist, too.

Nominating Rice would be a master stroke. The only question is, will the White House annoint John McCain? They really don't respect him. They may do so, only if he agrees to take Condi with him.

In a Condi v. Hillary match up, Hillary would lose. Condi would siphon women's votes and black votes (yes!) as well. Don't think people will vote against their interests? What's the matter with Kansas? Some racist votes will be lost, but she will make up for that with more black votes.  The only thing to stop Condi would be if anyone can establish that she has gone to bed with another woman (not suggesting that is appropriate --it isn't.)

You can say you heard it here first, because I have been mentioning this in comments for months.

Please don't tell me you feel sorry for Ben. Ben is a well cared for dalmatian and has not been harmed by my political views.

I did a diary on Condi v. Hillary in the spring that got fairly mocked, oh well, but I enjoy mulling it.....and would the Dems counteract w/Obama in any way? hmmm...
    •  Bush's heir (none / 0)

IMHO itll depend heavily on how strong Bush remains in 2008. If he's still got the bulk of R loyalty she'll be a formidable candidate running as his heir.

if he's sunk so is she.

though I expect the usual suspects like Allen and Mccain to give a good fight.
