My first thought on hearing Miers was the nominee was "whew, it could have been a lot worse." I've still got that general feeling, but the more I learn the more concerned I get. The way I see it, there are at least a few good reasons for Dems to filibuster her:
1 - she's a total crony pick who is probably, above all, loyal to Bush
2 - she's not particularly qualified
3 - and this-

Beyond that we don't know much, do we? We might learn more at the hearings, but I expect she won't be too responsive. There is no question that, as a Bushie, the odds are that Miers is about as bad as it gets. I'm only more convinced of that after reading the Sun Herald article.
There's more on the flip.
But, as I've raised in a few comments, and Kos mentioned in one of his posts: "If not Miers, who?"
Bush is President and we have a Republican controlled Congress, so we are obviously not going to get someone we like. In fact, as far as I can tell, we aren't going to get someone even remotely acceptable. I just want to know what alternatives to Miers there are that are better for progressives and that Bush might realistically nominate. If someone can convince me there is a potential better alternative then you've got another voice for a filibuster.
Anyone have some names?
