I'm certainly not the first person to point out that the Christian Right should not presume to own morality, faith and the Bible. If Jesus Christ were ministering on earth today, he would probably toss George Bush and his ilk out of the temple because of their un-Christian words and deeds. Yet, the Bushian, holier-than-thou hypocrites have the gall to hurl stones at Democrats and progressives in the name of religion. It's time to turn the tables:
President Bush, surely you must have come across the following passage in one of your prayer meetings or Bible study groups:
For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. [Luke 18:25]
How do you reconcile this scripture with your push for massive tax cuts for the wealthy? Aren't you dooming these rich people to Hell? Wouldn't a good Christian help to divest these people of their assets so that they can go to Heaven?
Messrs Robertson and Falwell, you have become wealthy from your ministries. Isn't this a direct affront to God? Won't rich reverends have just as much difficulty getting into heaven as other rich men, or are there different rules for men of the cloth?
Mr. President, how can you cut social spending in view of the following passage:
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. [Matthew 25:41-46]
America has poor, hungry and sick people, Mr. President. Your budget would result in even more disadvantaged Americans. Isn't this in direct opposition to Christ's teachings? Doesn't that mean that you and your Republican supporters are risking everlasting punishment?
Mr. President, you have said that Jesus Christ is your favorite philosopher. His philosophy includes the following:
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. [Matthew 5:9]
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. [Matthew 26:52]
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. [Matthew 22:39]
You have not been a peacemaker. John Bolton is not a peacemaker. Why don't you want Americans to be the Children of God? Shouldn't we be friendlier to our neighbors? Is it fair that American's are dying by the sword because of trumped up evidence of WMD in Iraq?
Oh, and about that trumped up evidence and other falsehoods put forth by your administration...wouldn't it be wiser to avoid misleading the public, given that:
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape. [Proverbs 19:5]
