Repubs and "Status Quo" Dems are abandoning Bush in droves.
How do we as liberal americans make peace with those that refused to listen to us in the build up to the Iraq War?
I clearly remember shouting at the top of my lungs that the invasion of Iraq was wrong.
I clearly remember talking politics with my father and older brother about Bush's attempt to build momentum for war with Iraq and both of them saying that "it" probably was " not a good deal" for America.
I also remember my total horror when we all talked 6 monthes later and my own father and brother were ready to send a grandson/son off to Iraq to kill "Sand Niggers."
I also recall, at the same time, desiring wishing, hoping that my democratic party would rise to the occasion and stop/intercede in the bloodletting that was about to ensue, but they didn't.
I also remember sending packages to iraq with little goodies from america hoping that i made a difference???
My nephew served with honor, but even he wonders why?
with cold sweats in the middle of the night.
His father/grandfather can't answer him.
So he calls his uncle; Me: and I am the one who hates this war.
I am honored by his "after midnight calls" but I don't know what to tell him when he talks of killing 13 year old kids with hand grenades, who throw them for "50 bucks american"
I don't know what to tell him when he talks of shooting old men in robes who pop up in the weeds after an IED that tore the nose of of his newest guy.
I tell him that I am glad that he followed orders.
Because this country WOULD NOT EXIST if it weren't for soldiers, sailors and MARINES that follow orders.
That is all that I can tell him...
besides " I am glad you made it home."
I wish I could say more.
