Defend Dean

Mon Feb 07, 2005 at 04:45:30 PM PDT

The Republicans are preparing for a massive personal attack against Howard Dean after he becomes chairman of the Democratic National Committee. This is obviously an attempt to discredit the Democratic party as being "out of touch," which we all know is ridiculous bullshit.

While Howard prepares for this onslaught, we must help him by writing letters to local newspapers.

Get the good word out about Dean as soon as you can.

I apologize for the link-whoring and brevity of this post, but I feel that is important to spread the word considering what the Republican Noise Machine has done to Democrats before.

  •  My diary entry from Saturday (none / 1)

It is entitled "Misunderestimating Howard Dean," and has several talking points:

You could also flesh it out into an op-ed, refuting one more likely GOP line of attack--namely, that Dean is incompetent (loose cannon, meltdown in Iowa). The rebuttal: He raised $50 million in contributions, built a network of supporters other candidates envied, and methodically herded DNC cats en route to winning majority support for the chairmanship.

    •  Framing: cons are desperately afraid ;-) (none / 0)

Why else they would jump on Dean so fast?

Indeed, NRO "wishes" look quite nervous, seriously. What they really wish, is to keep the legend that democrats like Dean, Gore, Boxer are completely "out of touch". They might be doomed if this legend fails.

    •  Thanks for directing me to this.... (none / 0)

I missed it when it was posted.

Very succinct talking points.  I also think we need to remind people that the SCREAM was edited - and taken out of context.  Compare it, say, to the "yawning boy" George Bush clip on Letterman.  The Repubs were up in arms of THAT being edited - and it was simply a harmless laugh, NOT a potential career-ender.

To keep repeating again and again, "Why are the Republicans so AFRAID of Dean" is the key.  Never waver from it.

  •  I don't like Dean (none / 1)

I think he'll bebad for the party. But when (i still hope it should be if) he is sworn in as chair, I assure you my attacks on him will stop and I will become one of his most vocal defenders.
    •  asdf... (none / 0)

care to explain why you think he'll bad for the party?
    •  Standing for something is bad? (none / 0)

Name me one thing Howard Dean said in the primaries that was wrong.  Don't spin it using RNC talking points.  Just give me the facts.

And then....name me one thing...just one...that George Bush has done right.

      When you're done...then we'll talk.

      Paging Doctor Dean.

      •  That's easy... (none / 0)

Dean said the intelligence on Weapons of Mass Destruction was dubious and did not stand up to careful scrutiny. What about all the WMD we found in Iraq, huh?

Next, Dean said Saddam Husseins capture would not change the security situation. Hah! Iraq's been perfectly safe and stable ever since.

Also, Dean said that the way Republicans were running things our economy was on track to being like a third world nation. Ridiculous! As long as Bush keeps cutting taxes the surging economy will easily close the budget gap!

        There's more! Ha!

      •  It's not so much that they're lies (none / 0)

I didn't say he lied. Michael Kinsley wrote a gaffe is when a politician tells the truth. Dean just needs to be smarter and stay on message instead of trying to change how the game is played. When my GOP friends attack dean I'll defend him.
