C-SPAN programming alert - Gannon and Kos

Thu Apr 07, 2005 at 05:19:26 PM PDT

No - not together - although that might be fun!

C-SPAN is televising the National Press Club forum on "Who qualifies as a Journalist"

ePluribus Media is covering the forum, which features Gannon/Guckert, Wonkette and others.

It's on C-SPAN2 Friday 9:30am

C-SPAN is also doing a Q&A with some guy named Markos Moulitsas Sunday at 8pm.  Don't know anything about the details, but I did see it listed on the C-SPAN website when I went to see if they were televising the NPC forum.  Check out "This week on C-SPAN".

Details below the fold

There's already been a lot of foofaraw on the blogs about the Gannon/Guckert appearance at the National Press Club, scheduled for tomorrow.  Here's the panel list from the NPC site

Who is a journalist?
Now that anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can set up shop on the Web, the days when you could tell who was a reporter by looking for a press card stuck in a fedora are long gone. A writer for a conservative Web site got credentials from the White House, even after a committee of journalists turned him down. For several years, bloggers have been blurring the lines daily between journalists and activists. And now professional media blogs blur even those lines. So how do you know who's a journalist these days? A panel of journalists, bloggers and others will discuss the rules for who is what on Friday, April 8. Panelists include:

Julie Hirschfeld Davis, of the Baltimore Sun, chairwoman of the Standing Committee on Correspondents for the House and Senate press galleries

Garrett Graff, editor, Fishbowl DC, the first blogger to receive White House press credentials

Jeff Gannon, formerly with conservative Web site Talon News, whose question at a presidential news conference focused attention on how he got into the White House press corps

Ana Marie Cox, editor of Wonkette.com

John Stanton with Congress Daily, who has written for National Journal about blogs and conservative news organizations

Matthew Yglesias, staff writer at The American Prospect and editor of yglesias.typepad.com

Mike Madden with Gannett News Service and co-chair of the NPC Professional Affairs Committee will moderate the program.

If you're not too burnt out from the Pope's funeral, check it out.  I hope that they meant that Gannon/Guckert is an other, and not a blogger or journalist.  Popcorn anyone?

I eagerly await ePluribus Media's report!

My first Diary - hope I did it right!

  •  I thought you meant now... (none / 1)

...so I flipped to CSPAN just in time to see Roger Ailes say:
Who would have thought a year ago that we would see Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings, and Ted Koppel, all leave in the same year?

Well, FOX killed off the Pope a day early, and now Ailes has killed off Jennings.

pretty good one, I almost believed you until I realized I was reading dKos.  (Yes, I do read other blogs...)

great 1st try.  May you have many more.

    •  You're welcome (4.00 / 8)

I love C-SPAN, but it was hard to watch today.  I watched some of their coverage of the stopactivistjudges.org conference.  They had DeLay on video.  He was supposed to attend, but was at the Pope's funeral instead.  He was ranting about judges "disregarding the will of the legislature."  I had to turn it off.

Guess this will have to serve as a tip jar. Great diary - wish I had the knack. And really loved your "some guy named Markos".

  •  I have Cowboy Cable (none / 0)

All C&W music, religion and Nascar channels.

Carrying CSPAN-2 would mean dropping the "Eternal Word Network".

Their idea of democracy is assigning CSPAN to the same channel as the strongest over-the-air VHF signal in the state rendering it unviewable on cable...it is like watching the radio :-(

Thanks for the heads up and good on ya for the first diary!

  •  Good first diary. (4.00 / 3)

I haven't quite screwed up the courage to do my first.  I'm just as content to read and learn, and comment sometimes.  Hope that doesn't make me a lazy slacker.  Truthfully, when I think I have a topic, I look and someone more efficient than I has already posted a good diary on it. LOL.  I recommend and give you a 4.
