Truth in advertising

Okay, two procedural discussions that I would like to clear up...

Diary titles...should the community self police and discuss why a title is incorrect or misleading? After getting into a disagreement earlier over a very misleading diary title, I decided I would like to hear how others feel. Should people be allowed to spread libel around DKos with reckless abandon and we should just downrate them in their "tip jar" or should we request title changes?

The second question I have is self purging of your diaries. I tend to delete my diaries after they have been up a week or two to decrease the strain on the servers that Kos so graciously lends us to pontificate on a regular basis. I know I missed Bob Johnson's pulling the plug on the diary shenanigans. It it correct to remove them, should they be left up or am I wrong and the diaries don't take up much space on his servers?

Hope this did'nt knock anything really important off the list...I figured it's a Friday night so hopefully this frivilous topic is not too out of line.

•  Please don't delete diaries.

  They're automatically deleted by the system after a period of time (I think it's four months, but I'm not sure), so the 'strain on the server' is already managed.  

  Sometimes I'll go back to find a quote from an old diary and can't find it.  Deleted diaries pose an inconvenience to other people who may be wanting to find it later.

  do the diaries go after they scroll off?  I used to be able to find them, but haven't figured out the new system.  Yeah, sometimes I like to go back and look something up, too.

    I have not been able to really utilize the search function on the site, it is not very (for this) user friendly.

    •  It's up top, next to your name, etc.

      Put your name in the search box, click the archives box.

      Then save the page that comes up in your bookmarks. It will always go to your archives, and will always be updated.

•  Don't delete diaries.

  Kos has PLENTY of space. They get archived, anyway.

  I missed the brouhaha about diary titles. A little more info might help. Like, which fricking diary was it?

  and please keep the diaries for as long as you can. Maybe Kos and Gang on the front page can decide which should be kept and which should not depending on subject matter relevancy and quality of work?
