The F word: GOP claims "Fraud" in WA

Wed May 18, 2005 at 08:01:18 AM PDT

OK, since people here are very good at pointing out how someone who claims "fraud" had better have a damned good case before they do it, how about we get all of the Seattle and WA people to jump all over Chris Vance, WA state GOP chair for doing it?

  •  You're confusing republican rules... (none / 0)

    ...with democratic rules.

Democratic Rule: If you think fraud occurred, you are a paranoid sore loser.

Republican Rule: You are the winners, and you can do anything we want to.

These aren't my rules. They are the rules applied by the media to any charges of fraud.  The rules mean that any charges of fraud from the left had better be backed by solid evidence, or the media will make us look like fools, but the right can charge fraud anytimee they want and the media will treat the charge with the utmost respect.

  •  This is because... (4.00 / 3)

...they're going to lose their court case next week.

As I've been saying, though, the Republicans have winning the court case as only half their strategy. The other, and possibly more important half, is to sully Gregoire's legitimate victory with cries of fraud. The result would be to prevent her from ever exercising authority or legitimacy, and thus remain weak going into a 2008 rematch.

I'm not convinced the WA State Dems understand this. Everything I've seen from them suggests that they falsely believe a victory in the court case would automatically equal a victory in the court of public opinion. It most certainly does not, and stuff like this (the GOP e-mail claiming fraud) shows the need for the moribund state Dems to wake the fuck up and craft a media strategy to defend Gregoire's victory.

    •  It would be good if the dems (none / 0)

could show that Republicans were involved with fraud. At least they are working that case coming up with their own list of potential Republican fraud. They would do well to reach back to the early days of post-election. They need to quote and replay clips of Rossi when he said the election was conducted fairly (while he was still winning). I think dems should also play up the angle that Gregoire wanted ALL counties to be recounted, or none at all. I hope that will go along way to demonstrating her desire for fairness in the election.
