      •  He said there's blood in the water (4.00 / 2)

and to watch for more Senators joining Thune and Voinovich.

He also said Lugar is giving the White House the benefit of the doubt more than he should be, and isn't working in his own self interest.

        •  Blood In The Water--Not Just Bolton (none / 1)

At least that's what he says.  A general falling apart of the total intimidation machine, the early signs of which the CW has, as usual, entirely missed seeing.
          •  now that would be news (none / 0)

we all picked up early signs... include the business-religious nutcase split over stem cells.

In fact, stem cells are BIG, for so many reasons. If nothing else, the narrative of science and progress vs the theocons is just so compelling (it blows away the mad scientist vs ethical conservative being pushed by kate O'byrne and the NRO crowd (she tried it on Capitol gang and even Novak wasn't buying).

And it's YA loss for Frist. if Bush as to veto, it's Bush standing ion the way of the cure that could help your grandmother. Specter's performance today on This Week was outstanding, defending the Senate bill against brownback's idiocy.

            "When does life begin, Arlen?"

"Sam, I'm much more concerned as to when my life ends."

            Silence.

but he wasn't so stellar when he said, "Well, there's never been a filibuster of a Supreme Court nominee."

that's Arlen... he's so wobbly, he could teach Jackson Pollack how to paint.

See, if Specter breaks free of the intimidation, that's news.

        •  I love Steve Clemons (none / 0)

but keep in mind he's really into wanting Bolton to fail, and isn't always objective about Bolton's chances.

Still, he's been right so far, the little devil.

  •  2nd Hour (none / 1)

Fascinating discussion that just spent about 5 minutes on "The Power of Nightmares" and the incredible resistence to showing it in the US, as well as the chance that a shorter version--shown at Cannes--may arrive in art houses or DVD in the next year or so.
    •  I have "Power of Nightmares" (none / 0)

but haven't wathced it yet. It it that long that I should wait for the shorter version and is it more persuasive than Farenheit 911?
      •  2 1/2 Hours--Not Really Comparable to F-9/11 (none / 0)

The original is 3 one-hour films. The new edit is a single 2 1/2 hour film. It's not readily comparable to F-9/11. Each has different strengths and weaknesses.

It's a "striaght" documentary, relying almost entirely on interviews with its subjects, and it provides a coherent explication of forces at work.

F-9/11 is much more about breaking through a wall of denial with a kaleidescope of suppressed information, but a rather weak/sketchy notion of how they might fit together.
