[I wrote this a few day back when the referenced opinion piece came out, but it's still relevant, it needs a larger audience, and it needs to be said.]
So, I'm going about my day, la-de-da, reading the newspapers, the blogs, the opinion pages. It's the same old, same old. My proclivity toward anger mostly repressed under years of Bush rule. However, this line, this fucking line, gets under my skin and makes me want to scream.
Largely because they fight jihadists over there, there has not been another 9/11 here.
Now mind you, this entire opinion piece by
Victor Hanson in today's Wall Street Journal is an outrageous depiction of the denial that lies at the heart of the GOP, but that fucking over-there-not-over-here line simply has to be put to bed. Done, over, retire the line. Take it's license away. It's old, it's used, and it's flat out wrong.
Does anyone, besides
34% of the American people, believe that by us going there, to Iraq, that we are any safer here, at home? Is it not possible that Osama has enough sick fucks, and more importantly, enough patience to carry out another attack here. Please. Our unprovoked attack, on a mostly defenseless nation, has
increased the ire of thousands of middle-of-the-road Muslim men inciting them to take up the fight. We have not been attacked here because we have been lucky, not because we are over there, and certainly not because of George W. Bush.
So, please, enough already. Put that fucking line out to pasture and find another excuse for our illegal invasion of Iraq. Maybe one that sprinkles in the truth. Maybe one that includes the words grudge, hubris, empire and greed.
Normally I would instruct you to read more, but in this case don't bother. Seriously, why make yourself crazy?
