ok maybe i am wrong here....
but wouldnt this be an opportune place to spend a few days....
right outside with military service applications (and big signs saying register here for the war you so desperately supported), maybe bring some recruiters along for the obvious reason, but also to add a touch of legitimacy (as well as snark) AND a buffer against the hired thugs they will probably have show up. (i noticed they dont have any recruiters listed in their invited guests).

as a plus if we really behave look what they have scheduled!!!!!!!

Saturday, June 25
 9:00pm Night on the Town

a great opportunity to hear some really uhhh .. motivational speakers (i think Delays topic is how to make enemies and screw people over)... encourage national service and sacrifice for the things they hold most dear while helping increase the number of enlistees.....  AND a wild night on the town with the college republicans....

  •  Nearby Recruiting Station (none / 0)

Maybe someone should call or fax the recruiting office and let them know that so many young Americans will be there.  Maybe they'll send a recruiter down there.

    (doing my best renfield imitation....)

what fun this could be!  we should, we REALLY REALLY should, ya know!  why, i am on the pubbie mailing list and get invitations to all KINDS of things (pulling trench coat up above ears and adjusting hat and sunglasses......)

where did you say that convention is being held????
(innocently lifting chin and batting eyelashes behind dark glasses....)

  •  bad hour in the states (none / 0)

i realize this is up at a bad hour for the states, so it most certainly will get lost in the downward diary shuffle...  hopefully someone can repost later to hit everyone on the east coast with the call up...
  •  Great idea but (4.00 / 6)

please think about how you are going to present yourselves.  Signs saying "register here for the war you so desperately supported" are, I think, too clearly anti-war protest signs and will turn the news story into one about how the anti-war zealots think enlistment is just for punishing political opponents.  Signs should say only "Support our troops, enlist" or slogans to that effect.  In short this action will be most effective if we are sincerely interested in increasing enlistment because 1) the military is short 2) the nation needs more troops for our defense 3) we want to help those young men and women who are already sacrificing, and we think people who supported the war would be the best place to look for new recruits.  In other words those on our side, outside the convention, should be focused on increasing enlistment.  The reaction of the YRs will tell the story.

You could also have signs saying "Trouble! Help the Army meet Recruitment goals!"  or "$40,000 Enlistment Bonus!" Wish I could be there.

Also sounds like an opportunity for a Michael Moore wannabe - or Ladies Against Women.  I loved their bake sale at the 1988 (1984?) Dallas Republican National Convention.  They were raising funds to help close the deficit.  Brownies were $50 million a piece, as I recall.

    •  This is a job for (none / 0)

good cop/bad cop. Make the initial recruitment effort polite, civilized etc. Maybe some will even sign up. Then, when it's been made clear that some or all of them have "other priorities", it's time to "change the tone" and bring on the chickenhawk taunts!

in my opinion it would be better to give no indication that this is political.  It seems to me that if there is any indication that this is being done to embarrass Republicans it will be a less powerful action.  Now if they come after us, don't back down or try to play 'nice', I'm not suggesting anything like that.  What I'm saying is, as much as possible, don't try and embarrass the YCPs, leave to them to do that.
  •  Get Liberal Vets (4.00 / 4)

If we can would should fill a stand with liberal vets who are obviously not longer fit to serve.  Get them to wear any medals and put up signs like mentioned above, "Support our troops, enlist"

Be much better if the actual recruiters could be convinced to do it.  They might be desperate enough for numbers to try.

  •  No encouragement to enlist???? (none / 0)

I checked out the website and there was nothing I could find encouraging these "young republicans" to enlist and fight the war.  Check out the "talking points" and while college republicans are encouraged to propagandize about how President Bush has brought "freedom" there's not one mention of the need to enlist in the military to help bring about that "freedom."
  •  No Surprise (none / 0)

Mitt Romney is again going to be out of state, polishing his image for a presidential run.

Man, I'm sick of that guy.

  •  Great idea. (none / 0)

I really hope folks there in Virginia can follow through with this.  Would be wonderful to have some pics posted.  I'd love to see the R's trying to throw the recruiters off the event site, especially if the media is present.
