I know a lot of people were offended by the pie fights. But I am offended by Amy Klobuchar's ad about price gouging. There are a ton of issues out there and she picks an easy target like Exxon. Wow. Way to take a risk.
It is really bothering me because I want to completely support her campaign. I want a Democratic female to represent me. She seems smart, articulate, and genuinely caring. I heard as an inroductory speaker to a John Edwards rally last fall. She was quite inspiring. She speaks from the heart.
But she plays it safe all the time.
It's time for new priorities. We need 1) a truly comprehensive national energy policy; 2) new standards and investments that promote homegrown renewable Minnesota energy like ethanol, biodiesel, wind, solar and more; and 3) above all, require the oil companies to stop price gouging Americans and start investing in homegrown renewable energy.
I'm for free enterprise, but I am not for price gouging. That's why I'm proposing to create a "Gas Price Gougers Penalty." Under my plan, any oil company that gouges customers, whether from a natural disaster or under any other circumstance, will have to pay a substantial penalty. We can then use that money to help our citizens meet the cost of high energy bills and to wean our nation from foreign oil by investing in homegrown renewable energy sources.
Let's light a grassroots fire under Congress. Email your Members of Congress to urge the chairmen of the Senate Commerce Committee, Ted Stevens, and the House Energy & Commerce Committee, Joe Barton, to support my "Gas Price Gougers Penalty."
A penalty for price gouging. This does not seem like she is going out on a limb to me. There are no details. How about reducing the tax cuts to corporate America? How about something specific?
I want to embrace Amy Klobuchar's campaign so much. I don't think Patty Wetterling is qualified. Amy seems like an excellent candidate and could be an excellent Senator for the people in Minnesota. But she is playing it so safe that I can't even figure out where she stands on issues.
Hopefully, with time, her stance on issues will be more clear and she will have detailed plans to address those issues. Because this vague rhetoric does not resonate with me and doubt it will with the Minnesota voters. We are not in Alabama!
