Cheney Mum, Will Bush Mention It?

Just like George W. Bush before him, Dick Cheney made a brief stop in Reno last Saturday, gave a prepared speech and left without addressing the one issue that most concerns Nevadans: the Yucca Mountain Repository.
After his typically dry delivery of a speech touting the Bush Administration's sketchy record on veterans' issues, Cheney quickly left the building and then the state, leaving Nevadans to wonder if they'll ever get a straight answer on the 77,000 tons of deadly nuclear waste slated for delivery by road and rail into Nevada.
Even though, as Senator John Ensign, R-NV, recently said on the televised political talk show "Face to Face With Jon Ralston," that when it comes to the Yucca Mountain repository, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry "...on this one issue he's been better than George Bush..." for Nevada.
Rumor has it that Bush might make a campaign stop in Las Vegas next week, affording him yet another opportunity to explain to Nevadans exactly why he misled them in 2000, with his now infamous `sound science' quote concerning Yucca Mountain.
Judy Treichel of the Nevada Nuclear Waste Task Force said, "As governor, Bush steered low-level waste away from Texas. But high-level radioactive waste is fine for Nevada? Bush promised to let `sound science' guide his decision but he ignored studies that show Yucca Mountain to be incapable of waste isolation. Now that the federal courts have decided in favor of Nevada, don't we at least deserve to hear answers from the Bush Administration?"
