Shaming the wingnuts

Sat Jun 04, 2005 at 12:59:58 PM PDT

Kos and lesser blogs have been effective in creating and spreading the great phrase "101 Fighting Keyboarders" and then challenging the wingnut trolls and others who back Bush to put themselves on the line in the military.

This is getting traction, and puts what is involved in perspective and the other side on the defensive.

We should build on this - I have already started on other blogs throwing this back to the more erudite and/or annoying trolls.

Goes as follows:

What have you done today to help solve our military manpower crisis?

  1. Have you enlisted yourself?
  2. If not --
   a) Have you posted on one of your wingnut blogs - Free Republic, NRO, LGF, any others - a strong statement encouraging others who might be able to to do their patriotic duty?
   b) If you have children between 18-35, have you discussed this with them
   c) Same thing for siblings, nieces, grandchildren?
   d) What about your neighbors or friends?
   e) If you are an employer, have you held a meeting to let them know that you encourage their enlistment, that their duty to their country exceeds that to your company, and your job is guaranteed when you return?
   f) If you belong to a church, have you brought the subject up at group meetings?
   g) If you are a Republican, have you petitioned your local or state party to make this a priority
   h) have you asked your local school district if they could convene a meeting with students so you could emphasize how important it is to defend our country?
   i) have you written letters to the editor of your local paper calling on all who can to join, or for those really good writers, asked to write an op-ed piece?
   j) have you called in to your local or any national right-wing radio program explaining how important it is for people to enlist?
   k) have you written your Represenative or Senator and told him that, if necessary, a draft should be reinstated so that we have a strong military?
   l) and if, in the absence of not joining yourself, what is stopping you from doing any or all of the above non-liferisking steps mentioned here?

Of course, across the board, the troll's response will be no to all (if he responds at all).

  •  Shaming cont'd (none / 1)

We have found a very effective rhetorical device to shame the Bush apologists and to hit them where it hurts. Love to hear many other ways to make them see what they could do but refuse to without putting their own lives at risk.

We have found a very effective rhetorical device to shame the Bush apologists and to hit them where it hurts.

Making them look like the assholes that they are to sane, normal people is one thing. Shaming them at a personal level? You have evidence that this is possible?

From my observation, they are no more capable of personal shame than a horse would be if one took it into a living room and it took a dump on the rug. That's what happens when one burns out one's personal conscience to join The Coalition of the Insane.

    Enlist!

    I kinda like adding:

Put your Bushiter where your Bushit is!

  •  Donate their taxcuts (none / 1)

Suggest they estimate how much Bush has given them in taxcuts and suggest, unless they are actively using it to create jobs (lol), they donate it to unmetneeds or to veteran's programs or just send it back to the DOD. All of it.

    It's good for a laugh.

  •  Assuming they are capable of shame... (none / 0)

Back during the election I asked a Bushista couple I know--don't you see Bush's policies may end up drafting your kids into fighting his wars?

Their unbelievable response was...we are loyal to our President, and if we must make that sacrifice...

It was then I came to the horrible realization, REPUBLICANS EAT THEIR YOUNG!

After which, they will put a "support the troops" bumper sticker on the family Humvee, I am sure.

I fear that feeling shame is not a GOP strong point.

  •  Tutor at your local high school (none / 0)

Help those who might have trouble passing the entrance exams by giving them extra support.

(Jeez, you might actually do some real good if you do that.)

  •  Ask them (4.00 / 2)

Ask them "What will you tell your grandchildren when they ask you what you did in the War on Terror?"

    I cheered them on?

I had better things to do?

Fighting wars is for poor, uneducated people without connections?

  •  whatta you bet they lie... (none / 0)

...and simply claim they are over 35? And that they claim that they already have in fact counseled all their neices & nephews & sons & daughters to enlist?

I mean, it's not like they're gonna admit to being total hypocrits if they can avoid it, right?

Of course, the chances that all these freeper frat-boys are all 36 and over is approximately equal to the chances that the exit polls were all wrong.  But hey, this is not the reality-based community we're dealing with.  I mean, do you think they'll even feel a moment of inner shame?

No matter! It's still a great strategy, since there's no way that our comments will get censored --just play all sincere about it!

    Here's another one:

Confidently predict that, since white males under the age of 35 were one of Bush's top demographics, we will soon be seeing a surge in enlistments from this group... as well as a surge in enlistments from Red states in general.  Act all surprised that we haven't seen it yet, but just keep on hammering away, every day, with the same prediction and the same "surprised" reaction that the recruitment figures haven't yet gone up.

Gee, I mean, "Bush does has a strong mandate, right?"
