Redstate.org, Google News, Global Warming

So, I was wondering whether or not the "Hurricane increase caused by global warming" idea might actually catch on this year.  So I searched for

   dennis "global warming" hurricane

at Google News.  I was horrified to see the top results was redstate.org.  Here were the top search results:

What the f---?  Howcome redstate.org gets listed on Google news, and we do not.  And furthermore, how the frig does redstate get to be the top hit on Google News search?

Am I right in thinking dailykos.com doesn't get listed on Google News?  If so, given the redstate.org does get listed, doesn't that set a precedent for us to get ourselves listed too?

Help!  Can somebody organise a "KosAction!" diary, to get folks around here to synchronise an email bombardment of google news.  (I would, but I'm leaving for a trip in a couple of hours, where I'll be without online access.)

Here's a start.  First, the "About Google News" page gives the following as one of it's FAQs:

What if I don't see my favorite news source in Google News?

We're as shocked as you are! If we're missing a publisher that we should be covering, please send us your ideas. While we can't guarantee that we'll heed your recommendation, but we do promise to review all the suggestions we receive without regard to political viewpoint or ideology.

The "send us your ideas" part links to a page where you select a type of feedback (complaint?):

What the f---?  Howcome redstate.org gets listed on Google news, and we do not.

Because, some months ago, Markos asked Google to take dkos off the Google news search in order to avoid questions about diaries coming up on the search being endorsed by dkos or himself.

I don't remember if it was posted as a diary or a comment but he answered that question quite explicitly when the diaries stopped showing up on google news.  Before he made that move Dkos diaries were quite common on Google News, to say the least.

    •  Right (none / 1)

I think that was quite the mistake, though I certainly understand the cons and see how -- being the titular Kos who could be dragged through the mud -- he could come down on the other side of the debate.

Maybe he just needs to add an auto-generated disclaimer at the top of all diaries: "does not express views of Daily Kos." Or maybe no one would care about such a disclaimer.

      •  Yeah (none / 1)

I can see both sides most definitely.   I think exposure right now is paramount for many of the issues that come up here...but, again, I can see the other side as well.

OTOH, RedState doesnt suffer from the same hardship of massive traffic and widespread internet devotion and attention....so they have zero reason to pull back from said attention (be it for good or bad).

Kinda relates to the banning issue as well...and I pretty much sit on the fence seeing both sides of that issue as well in the same respect as this one.

  •  Scary (none / 0)

Meanwhile back in the reality based universe, Yes Virginia (and Florida too), global warming does make more hurricanes.  See this.

I recall during last year's extended hurricane season, the repeated theme on Fox was "this has nothing to do with global warming."

So what DOES cause extra juicy hurricanes? Why, just ask Pat Robertson. It's them homersexyuls, silly.

The only problem with that theory: Dennis plowed right up Red-State Ally. You couldn't find a red-stater heterosexual-er path, I do believe.

    •  The article says (none / 0)

"According to a recent study, hurricanes will become even more intense because of global warming -- the idea that greenhouse gases are heating the earth's atmosphere and oceans."

Now see, they don't have the idea of global warming in the red states, so they don't have to worry.

    •  I don't think it IS b/c of global warming (none / 0)

There's also a 20-year cycle of Northern hemisphere Atlantic Ocean warming entirely separate from global warming.

  •  Am I the only one? (none / 0)

I am not sure if the articles you posted were the only ones over at RedState.org, but if they are then it really shows you how much the right is willingly to twist and distort issues.

Not one of those articles is from the US.  I see Jamaica, India, and the UK.

    WTF?!

    •  No. (none / 0)

These are the results from Google.

The first one is from Redstate.org.

The rest are from various actual news sources, like newpapers in Jamaica, etc.

Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a big story commenting on the connection between hurricanes and Global Warming coming up from a major US source.

"Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a big story commenting on the connection between hurricanes and Global Warming coming up from a major US source."

Oh, so you mean to tell me that the nutjobs over at RedState.org don't really have a case about the Democrats pushing forward stories about a Dennis-Global Warming connection?  They don't have one single US source?

        Figures.

  •  I said, "report a problem". (none / 0)

I admit to not being completely familiar, but is Redstate.org really a "news source"?
