Don't just do something, sit there! (Action & Poll)
Tue Jul 12, 2005 at 09:55:22 PM PDT
I don't know about y'all, but I am getting BOMBARDED with desperate e-mails from politicians and all kinds organizations to sign petitions, send letters, spread the word--a pretty good indication of how truly f-d up things are these days.
I can't respond to every e-mail (I'd never get away from this damn computer!), so please bear with me in this half-assed attempt to lend a hand. Below the fold are a variety of very worthy causes, any one or more of which you may be interested in. Check 'em out, do yo' thang and tell 'em Juno sent you.
No obligation, no salesman will call, void where prohibited, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Give Wal-Mart a Lesson from Kids [e-mail only]
Connecticut just fined Wal-Mart for child labor law violations. And in January, Wal-Mart agreed to pay $134,540 after being cited for child labor violations in Connecticut, Arkansas and New Hampshire... Wal-Mart has racked up huge fines for child labor law violations. The rich company reportedly makes children younger than 18 work through their meal breaks, work very late and even work during school hours. Several states have found Wal-Mart workers younger than 18 operating dangerous equipment, such as chain saws, and working in dangerous areas like trash compactors... Let Wal-Mart Hear It from Children! Help your child send a message to Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott to let him know your family won't be buying any back-to-school supplies from
Wal-Mart this year. Mail your child's letter by Aug. 1 to:

As the world's largest and most profitable oil company, ExxonMobil needs to shed its past as an irresponsible oil company and move forward as a responsible energy company - one committed to more than drilling at any price. Tell CEO Lee Raymond how you feel about ExxonMobil's policies on global warming, the Arctic Refuge, and oil dependence. [Fill out form letter provided]
From Rep. Dennis Kucinich:
Homeward Bound Act Gaining Steam
The Homeward Bound Act, H.J. Res. 55, is a binding Resolution calling for President Bush to announce by the end of 2005 a plan for withdrawal from Iraq that would begin by October 1, 2006. The Bill is intentionally crafted to avoid partisan finger-pointing and recriminations... Please act now in support of this bill. Action items and contacts are
here.
From Rep. Louise M. Slaughter:
Send Karl Rove His Pink Slip
It is time to hold the President accountable. He made a promise to the American people that he'd fire whoever leaked the identity of Valerie Plame, an undercover CIA agent. Now that we know the leaker was, at least in part, Karl Rove; it is time for the President to keep his word. We are sending along our own pink slips to Karl Rove because the President refuses to do it himself. If the White House ends up knee deep in pink paper, perhaps the President will finally give Mr. Rove the legitimate pink slip he so greatly deserves. Putting the life of an undercover CIA agent in jeopardy cannot be tolerated. Mr. Rove clearly deserves his pink slip, and we're going to give it to him. [Pink slip/form provided; you've probably seen this before, but it's just TOO good not to repeat]
Pick your poison. Good luck and...
