Boy, with this guest list, it’s gonna be hard to keep the bagel down
Buchanan had a good line on Miers: "This is a `faith based' appointment"
And get this, Bush apologist and Moonie Times Editor Tony Blankley says he hopes Bush will reconsider and withdraw the Miers appointment. Wow!!...talk about unhappy campers.
But once again, it was Baadasssss Eleanor Cliff who had the best line: "Bush wants Miers on the Court, because he's concerned about the Constitutional crimes he's committed under the guise of "anti-terror." [I interpreted that as a reference to Plamegate and Nigergate, as opposed to the other Constitutional crimes Bush has committed]
The Right Wing discontent is interesting and hard to reconcile.
Now they're alarmed about cronyism?
Now they're concerned about a paper trail?
Until now, they couldn't care less about Bush cronyism. Yes SCOTUS is a unique position, but given the mess in the Middle East, both State and DOJ have a heighten importance, and they didn't care about Rice and Gonzales.
Roberts didn't have a paper trail when he was nominated, and yet the supported him from the get go. Roberts had the credit of being a successful SCOTUS litigator, but Miers has accomplishments in her own right - which are magnified when considering the glass ceiling she faced; which was surely thicker 20 years ago.
As for Roberts' Harvard credentials, that was useful in peddleing him to the public, but I don't think that cuts much grease with the Right Wingers. After all, Liddy Dole graduated from Harvard Law (one of only 24 women, out of 550) in 1965, and if she was appointed, the Wingers wouldn't care about her sheep skin.
Regardless, watching them pull their hair out can be fun. I only wished they cared as much for the other horrors that happened in the past five years.
