It has now been one year and seven days since the House passed the Stem Cell research bill. Three hundred and seventy-two days that my niece, age 15, has had to continue changing her diabetes pump site in her abdomen waiting for a cure her government has blocked. Fifty-three weeks she has waited to find out why tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, bans on flag burning and unconstitutional measures banning gay marriage are more important than her health and life.
I want to know why the Senate refuses to consider this bill. I want someone in the Senate to explain to my niece, who is 15 and was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at age 17 months, why it is more important to introduce irrelevant unconsitutional legislation about flag burning and gay marriage than it is to GET THIS BILL to the floor and authorize funding that could save her life, prevent her from having limbs amputated, keep her from going blind and help her live a normal life. I want them to answer to HER. And I want this answer NOW.
