As I was driving back to my office today, I heard a radio news story reporting that Congressman Mark Kennedy, who represents Minnesota's 6th District and is the Republican candidate for Minnesota's open U.S. Senate seat, today announced his support for Joe Lieberman's "Independent" candidacy for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut.
This plays along with the Rove/Bush/Cheney political spin on Lieberman's loss in the Connecticut Democratic primary -- extreme liberal, viciously partisan, "pre 9/11 mindset" elements have "hijacked" the Democratic party and are "purging" (shades of Stalin!) all the "reasonable, moderate, bi-partisan" folks like good ol' Joe Lieberman. Soon, I imagine that Amy Klobuchar, the Democratic Senate candidate, will be faced with demands from Kennedy and his minions that she announce whether she supports that "extremist anti-war, weak defense" candidate Ned Lamont rather than "strong anti-terrorist, non-partisan" Joe.
Fortunately for Klobuchar, there is an easy answer to these demands: just point out that Lieberman lost because people finally correctly saw him as a Bush/Cheney sycophant on the issues people care about the most -- which also explains why Kennedy is trying as hard as he can to shed his Bushbot image and run away from his record of supporting the Administration on 97% of his votes! Once again, Kennedy is simply heeding "his master's voice" by endorsing Lieberman's candidacy and provides still more proof that his claim to "think for himself" is pure, unadulterated BS.
