NBC Nightly News: A Powerful Indictment of the Bush Co.

Thu Sep 01, 2005 at 04:01:22 PM PDT

I am watching the NBC Nightly News right now. I must say that prehaps the MSM finally got it. This is a powerful indictment of the Bush Co. Brian William is broadcating live from Metairie, a New Orleans suburb. In the first ten minutes, NBC's reporter in New Orleans reported the choas in New Orleans today, with some "most disturbing pictures" (Brian William's words) including victims dying. Then he showed a few seconds of Bush's press conference today, followed by the question asked by the people trapped in New Orleans "Where is the help?" He also commented that this looks like from a third-world country, but this is not Iraq, not Somali.

I hope someone has taped it and put it on-line.

  •  I watched it (none / 1)

    Christ, it looked like Somalia.

How anyone in this country could still believe that George W. Bush can keep us safe.....

My heart is breaking and my blood is boiling with rage.

    •  When Repugs say... (4.00 / 3)

...Bush will keep "us" safe--remember just exactly who "us" is.
    •  The tragedy and the irony (4.00 / 4)

Many people voted for Bush because they thought he was keeping us safe...Instead he was gutting the very institutions that are there to protect and help us to pursue phantom weapons in Iraq.  The real dangers are still out there.  Bin Laden is roaming free, no doubt laughing at our government's incompetent response to the disaster and the money that could have mitigated this disaster was used for about a day's worth of the Iraq War.

      •  just remember (4.00 / 3)

John Kerry, who actually has saved  people, is not in office.  George fuckface, who couldn't even bring himself to serve in the national guard, is now directing thenational guard.

  •  I've got to say (4.00 / 3)

I really think a lot of it has to do with the fact that, as reporters, they are RIGHT THERE and they see it, you know?  Makes it much more difficult to gloss over thing or to not care.

As for video, you can always check Crooks and Liars and Dembloggers.com.

  •  I flipped around from CBS to NBC to ABC (4.00 / 6)

And honestly, it didn't matter what network I was watching.  The images and the message was the same - "These people are dying.  The Government is fucked up.  People need help.  Give to the Red Cross."

Kudos to the broadcasting today from the big 3 cable networks to the big 3 broadcast networks.  They've worked their asses off and most of them actually can wear their reporter's stripes with pride after today.

Bush/Cheney - in your guts, you know they're nuts.

  •  Stupid question (4.00 / 3)

The media are in NO. They're eating, they're drinking, they're able to get around enough to interview people and film "looters" (oh, yes, plenty of film of "looters"). (Sorry, I'm just getting royally pissed at the excessive "looter" coverage.)

SO WHY THE HELL CAN'T THE DISASTER TEAMS GET IN AND GET FOOD AND WATER TO PEOPLE???? WHAT AM I MISSING???

    •  Crony appointment (none / 0)

he is an estate lawyer. Bush crony appointment. He has no qualification.

      http://www.warandpiece.com/blogdirs/002458.html

My lord, the guy heading FEMA has no qualifications. What was he doing before getting pulled into FEMA by the Bush administration in 2003? He was an estate planning lawyer in Colorado and of counsel for the International Arabian Horse Association Legal Department. And yes, it is the same Michael D. Brown.

      •  I suspected as much (none / 0)

The people running things are cronies, not qualified for their jobs. These jobs are seen as plums to hand out for good fund-raising and getting Bush elected, not serious jobs with serious responsibilities requiring qualified people.

I suspected this about the FEMA guy, and I don't know but what about Chernikof or whatever the Homeland Security Guy's name is.

I seriously think I could do a better job than these guys. But then, I earned my MBA, it wasn't handed to me on a legacy silver platter, like Bush. And I've actually worked and managed projects of increasing complexity, starting my career at the bottom, not as a board member, like Chimpy McSmirk. And unlike him, I've never run a company into the ground.

He's so far over his head it's not even funny. I think maybe, just maybe, this time everyone will see him for the hopeless incompetant he is.

  •  FNC too. (none / 0)

Fox News Channel's Sheperd Smith painted a desparingly bleak picture of New Orleans on TV at the beginning of his news broadcast this evening (7pm et).  He didn't directly blame the Bush administration, but he faulted "the government" for allowing NO to fester for as long as it has.

Mr. Smith was even more cutting during a phone appearance on Hannity's radio program earlier today as he described scenes of anarchy, armed gangs, abandoned bodies, and a trip along I-10 during which he saw "not one" National Guard soldier or police officer.  In a rare feat, Smith left Hannity speechless.

  •  Brian Williams just asked Mike Brown (none / 0)

why they couldn't drop pallets of supplies to the convention center?  Answer: We just learned about that TODAY!!!
No lie!!!! Are you fucking kidding??

  •  abc (none / 1)

I was watching ABC Nightly News and they completely called Bush on his "no-one could have forseen the levies breaking" comment.  That footage was just devistating.

If some heads don't role on this one, I don't know when they ever should.  Bush proven over time that he has two real skills:  1) winning elections, and 2) shifting blame.  Looks like he may be loosing #2 now.

  •  Stick a fork (4.00 / 2)

  •  aWol is going to be held accountable for this (none / 0)

He is catching all kinds of heat.  He may slide, but he's wounded. He has shown zero leadership and he is being called on it. He has no defense. The truth comes out.
    •  He has a defense... (none / 0)

      ...it's Clinton's fault.

Or one of the other excuses he routinely uses.

Everyone keeps forgetting that the media is owned by the corporate body. It will slowly absolve Bush over time. Witness the DS Memo, the 9-11 Report, Plame, etc, etc... They will obfuscate and hide truths with half-lies like they have been.

Until we hold the media accountable, nothing will change.
