Bush's "Mea Culpa" is in the Iran Contra playbook

Thu Sep 15, 2005 at 05:58:16 AM PDT

Listen, take no solace in current poll numbers. Half this country voted for Dubya. The GOP has their Spin Machine and every branch of the Federal Government. This administration will rise again. Though the horrific images of unimaginable suffering have troubled our national psyche, there will still be more water cooler conversations today about Britney's baby than about what the President may say tonight. Karl and Co. know that score.
Tonight he'll lie, deny, spread the blame and cop to the lesser charge of having trusted people who failed the  "good folks of the Gulf coast".
Friends, take a moment to visit the website
http://www.reagan.utexas.edu. Check out the speeches on Iran Contra. Ronald Reagan was as stage managed as Bush is and this is the playbook. Bush will be found to have been "Out of the Loop". He is going to say we have to put this behind us, lots of hard work, blah, blah blah. Just enough of an apology to give Bush loyalists political cover, just enough speculation to give right wing pundits their talking points, just enough compassion to lull the country back into its collective coma of self absorbed indifference.
And it will still be too little, too late for our nation. Cry, the Beloved Country - Grover Nordquist had it wrong. Your federal government wasn't drowned in a bathtub, it was lost in the fetid waters of New Orleans.

  •  Ofcourse passing the buck (none / 1)

is what he is ultimately going to do...its a classic non-apology apology.

Some will also support this idiot...however, as heating prices rise this winter, I believe some will stay off the Bush wagon.  People are self absorbed, no doubt about it...they understand when it affects them personally.  This winter it will.

  •  As I mentioned in an earlier diary... (none / 0)

a couple of days ago. This is classic Nixon-speak. Bush will accept the responsibility but not the blame.

  •  Dubya's name change (none / 0)

The GOP should just drop the pretense and start calling him "He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Blamed".

  •  Shame game (none / 0)

He shamed us during our hour of tragedy and national horror. Biggest storm, and biggest fuck up we have known. It is going to take a lot for him to deflect this. Look at how good everything is going, and all the people doing good, when in reality, it took him until Fri morn with the DVD. a full five days after Katrina hit, to fully wake up. This good news from Katrina meme, still hints at being disconnected. Read Billmon, Moveable Feast, and his theory of gestalt.
